The firemen say tho teams and apparatuses need tho services of these drivers. Their captain, V. B. Cheshire and Assistant Chief W. P. Nicholson were requested to oppenr before the City Council and register a vigorous kick. Tho fir? department now costs tho city about .*?4'?0 a year. A paid de partment would cost the city at least ?10,000 a year. Tho city should give tho volunteer firemen what they want, for the city is not able to support a paid department. The people of Anderson County have at last woke np to tho importance of plantiug out more fruit trees. I tis an every day aieht now to see people hauling out bunches of young fruit treos which have been received from diff?rent nurseries. Pecan trees aie very profitable and these are being planted out in great numbers. Th?re aro several pecan orchards near the city, and the owners have had a bigger demand for tho nnts than they could supply. Evervbody who has a vacant spot around their house should plant a pecan tree and they will soon have a line shade tree and a money-maker, too. The beantv about planting out fruit trees is that, they do not have to bo looked after liko a cotton crop or other crops, but erow and do well while you sleep.
