Adger, of Charleston, is tho plaintiff. Sho sues for tho value of a trunk which she claims was lost by tho rail road company. Fire waa discovered in an outhouse in the yard of tho Toombes boarding house, on North Main street, last Fri day night about ?O.'?O o'clock. The firemen responded promptly to the alarm and extinguished tho tiro before much damage resulted. 1 v ia Bupposed the lire originated from tho explosion of a lamp, which had been left burning by a negro who ocoupied the houso. A barn and four small buildings on tho plantation of Mr. 13. P. Crayton ju?t west of tho city woro destroyed by tiro about 10 o'clock Saturday night. The stock was gotten ont of the barn in safety, but considerable farm pro duce waa burned, itisnotknown how the tire originated. ?Mr. Crayton had no insurance on tho buildings, and bin loss will bo about $1,000. The tiro de partment was called out. but it waa soon discovered that the tire was out side of tho city limits and it could givo no assistance. Tho Greenville News of yesterday says: "While on his way from Grovo Station to Piedmont yesterday morn ing, Park Soxton, ono of the most peaceful and orderly colored citizens of Piedmont, was assaulted by an un known colorod man with a double barrel shot gnu. Sexton waa Bhot in the hip and stoninch'aud his attending physician, Dr. A. G. Mock, says there is yiery little, hopes of his recovery, lt is not known wno Sexton's assailant is, but the authorities nt Piedmont aro making every possible effort to deter mine the guilty party. Sexton had tho reputation of being one of the best colored citizens in Piedmont. Ho has a number of friends among the white people and is highly respected by tho members of his own race.
