WEDNESDAY, JUNE 21, 1899.
Townville Items.
We have had good rains in our sec
tion, .which were needed very much.
The most of the farmers got their
wheat hauled in before it got wet. The
wheat crop is pretty good but not as
good as last year.
W. N. Bruce and family are visiting
Mr. B. Bagwell at Seneca this week.
Miss Maggie Speares is visiting her
grandmother, Mrs. Elirai Bruce, this
week.
Rev. J. M. McGuire, of Oakway,
preached a line sermon in the new
school house at this place on the 3rd
Sunday morning. Text: "If thine eye
offend thee pluck it out." Mr. McGuire
is a Georgian by birth and education
and has come among us well recom
mended, We think he is one among
the best preachers of our upcountry,
and every Christian ought to give him
all the encouragem ent that he deserves.
Dr. T. M. Bailey was with us the 1st
Sunday in June, and we were delighted
to see him an d glad we had some money
to give him. The Missionary Sunday
School gave bini $20 and the Townville
Church and Sunday School gave him
$15.
Mr. James McCarley has started with
his threshing machine and we will soon
have some good home-made flour.
Every one should take the INTELLI
GENCER, as there is so much valuable
information in it.
Dr. W. K. Sharpe, of this place, is a
model farmer, and we think he has the
nicest kept farm in the Fork.
Dr. W. T. Hunt, of this place, lost a
horse a few days ago.
Mr. J. A. Gaines is very sick at this
writing;, and we are afraid it will be a
long time l*fore he recovers to full
health.

sick but.we are glad to note she is
some better.
Mr. Spearman Dobbins and good

Somebody .has put oat word that the
Black Diamond nad fell through, but
we can't believe it. Now, Mr. Editor,.
lise ahd tell us what you know about

OLD ROSIN DE Bow.
Conner Creek Items.
The rains have descended and-vege
tation is growing fast. A few more
weeks of toil on the farm and we will
be laid by.
Rev. J. J. Beck, of Anderson, is in
our midst in the interest of his Insur
ance Company.
Mr. Editor, you. should visit us just
now, for we are feasting on such good
things as beans, Irish potatoes, beats,
okra, onions, etc., and also fried chick
ens and a few blackberry pies.
Grapevines are very heavy loaded
this year.
* Miss. Varena Shirley; .one of our
charming belles, who has been very
sick for the past month, we are glad to
note is convalescing now, and we trust
she may soon be well again.
Miss Emma Bigby is ill with fever at
this writing. May she have a speedy
recovery.
The threshermen have come and
gone. The grain erop this year made
a fair yield, though nothing to compare
to.the. good one made last year. The
majority of our farmers made plenty
of wheat to do them.
Crops in this section are better than
any we have seen. Upland corn is be
ing laid by by some of our farmers,
while cotton is heavy loaded with
squares, and we will have blooms in a
few days. We tell you, Mr. Editor, as
a whole our farmers cannot be excelled.
They are second to none when it comes
to straight out farming.
It was our happy pleasure on Thurs
day morning, 15th inst., to aboard
Smith's excursion to the city of Atlanta.
We reached the city about 7 p. m., and
at once our eyes saw grand sights. But
on the next day (Friday) We took in
tho "Gate City of the South," and saw
jsight? and wonders never to be forgot
ten. Yes, we certainly did enjoy the
trip, and hope to live and have the
privilege of going again on one of
Smith's grand excursions. TYRO.
