Martin's store at Anderson ville, this Couuty, was broken into and considerable goods taken, including sev? ere dollar's worth of postage stamps, the Postoffice being in the store. Among the articles stolen were a lot of peanuts, the bulls of which were scattered all along the road from the store to Tugaloo River. \ This showed that the burglars were from the Georgia side. The officers went there, and were not long in arrest? ing three young white men, named James Es tea, Loze O'Barr and Robert Moore. Look out next week for Messrs. Trimmier & Co.'s advertisement._ Last Sunday evening, between 6 and 7 o'clock, a most dastardly attempt was made to murder Mr. E. T. Casbin, the telegraph operator at the C. & G. R. R. in this city, by an unknown party. Mr. Casbin was at the depot in the discharge of his regular duties, which he. bad about finished, and was awaiting the appearance of Mr. Ed. Murphy, the night watchman, so that he could go home. The night was very dark, and a heavy rain falling. As is his custom before leaving the office every night, he went into the passenger reception room to see that the doors and windows were fastened. While in there he concluded to open the door and take a peep at the weather outside. He opened the door, but closed it almost immediate? ly, and as he did so the report of the pis? tol was heard. The ball struck the brick wall, two or three inches from the door frame. Mr. Casbin thinks the would-be assassin was standing ten or twelve feet from the door when he fired. It is the general opinion that the fiend intended to murder the watchman and then roh the depot. Every effort should be made to ferret out the villain, who should receive the extreme penalty of the law. The Market. Mr. Editor: All progressive citizens of the city will approve your advocating the building of a hotel. That it is needed cannot be doubted by any one; but where and how is the money to be ob? tained for that purpose? Our Board of Trade is composed of enterprising gentle? men. Could they not put the ball in mo? tion ? And would not many of the Stock? holders in the Anderson Farmers' and Mechanics' Association, as the Fair Grounds are to be sold and the proceeds divided among the Stockholders, givethe amount of their stock, or a part thereof, towards the building of a hotel ? . If we had a commodious hotel in An? derson, it would not only be a conveni? ence very much needed by the traveling public, but would be an inducement for many Summer boarders to spend their Summers here. These suggestions I make with the bone that some means may be devised to build a hotel by those who can accomplish it. B. FACTS WORTH KNOWING.
