Silk Culture itt Anderson. Messrs. T. J. Webb and J.H. Vonllusseln lave recently inaugurated a new industry rt Anderson-an industry which, if taken ' lold of by our people, will at no distant c ay be a source of considerable revenue to ' ur country. We allude to silk culture, t was our pleasure on last Tuesday after- j non to visit Messrs. Webb and Von Has- j eln's cocoonery, where they have 5000 silk I rorms at work. They have erected a ' ?ooden frame or rack in a small room. In ilia rack there are four shelves, which are ivided off hy slat partitions. The worms ( re placed on these shelves, wdiere they are < id and where they form their cocoons. < Vu could see them at Viork. Some bad al- ' ??"3y formed their cocoon?, others were ?inning the floss, and some were eating leir food. It was indeed an interesting r gilt. McGukin, of the firm of Os one ?fe McGukin, the proprietors of the tills on Depot street, has recently returned rom Cincinnati, Ohio, where he has been i ur two or three weeks engaged in buying he necessary machinery for thc estcblish nent of a sash, blind and door inanufucto y in this city. The machinery has arrived, nd within ten or fifteen days will be ilaced in position and be ready for work, ?verything pertaining to building material n thc shape of wood will be manufacture.! y this firm. It gives us pleasure to record bc fact that such on enterprise has been tarted in Anderson. We see no reason why t should not succeed. Our city is growing apidly, and such a manufactory is essential o our wants. Then there ia always more ,r less building going on in the country, ind the doors, sash, etc, have to he ordered rom a distance, which is often very incon -enicnt. The establhhment of this manu iictory in our midst will be a great conven ence, and no doubt our people will appre :iate the efforts and progressiveness of Uessre. Osborne &.
