Who Struck ?illy Tatterson. It has at last been discovered who struck Bill tatterson. A:; antiquarian, writing to a Georgia paper, tells ibo story of thu affray in w hich thc historical blow was given, and adda some tacts of recent development. A century ugo, William Patterson, of Baltimore, famous as the lather of Madame Bonaparte, owned considerable property in Franklin Coun ty, Ua. On the occasion of n visil to look after his interests ho becamo involv ed in a row, in tho confusion of which some one struck him a tremendous blow. This so enraged the Baltimore merchant that he stalked through tho crowd, ask ing in a teriffic voice "Who struck Hilly Patterson ?" As ho was a lnr^e man and one not lo be trilled with, no ono volun teered any information, ami tho inquiry passed into a by-word. The indignity rankled in Patterson's mind, however, and he pursued hts search for the offen der for a long time, but to no effect. At his death ho inserted in bis will a clause petting apart $1,000 to the person who should give to his heirs or executors the name ol' tho person who struck him. The fight occurred in 17?S!l, und now says this veracious chronicler, a claimant has appeared asking for tho reward. A Mrs. Jenny G. Covely, of Athol, ?. Y., daughter of George W. Tillerlon, has written to tho Ordinary of Franklin County, claiming the legacy of $1,000. She states that bite is an invalid, aged nnd infirm, and in great need of the money. In 1783 her luther was quito n young man, and being in great fenr of Mr. Patterson, fled the country at once, and never heard of tho reward or legacy. She says she has often heard her father speak of the fight and of tho blow he gave Mr. Patterson, and tho fierce anger of the latter. Tho thumb of Tillrrton's hand was disjointed by tho blow, and was so severely injured that it remained a useless member to the day of his death. As the facts ?he gives correspond so ex actly with the facts of the case, the cor respondent presumes that Mrs. Covely will receive the legacy without delay. It is not exactly clear what satisfaction this solution of the mystery can give to the late Mr. Pattrrson, but the world at large will be glad to have tho important histo rical point, settled., - "Will Love Win?" is the title of a new novel.
