At present the work is confined to the lowei end of the line. Major Twiggs is a man ol energy, and the road will be pushed rapidly to completion. Pressley presiding and Col. J. L. Orr, the Solicitoi, represent ing the State. His Honor charged thc Grand Jury as to the bills given out hy the State, and said that he would givt to the Grand Jury no further work than passing on tho billa given out by the Solicitor, os be recognized tho importance to the country of having the fanners at home at this season of thc year. He told them that if they knew of any matter requiring their attention that they must look into it, hut otherwise he would discharge them as soon as they tinished the I bills given them. The following eases were then tried : The State vs. Julius Green, burglary and larceny-guilty. Sentenced to three years' han' 'abor In thc Penitentiary. The State vs. Martha Hill," burglary nud larceny-guilty of larceny. Sentenced to j one month in jail. The State vs. Robert Rix, houso-broaking In day time and larceny-guilty. Sen tenced to three years in Penitentiary, at moderate labor. The Grand and Petit Juries were dis missed, and the Court of General .Sessions adjourned on Monday afternoon. The Court of Common Pleas was opened on Tuesday morning, and the business of the term disposed of by 10 o'clock on Wednesday, and at that hour tjic Court ad journed. Our people were as much delighted with thc dignity, ability and speed with whieb Judge Pressley dispatches business as ever. In him the State hos the services of an able, pure and distinguished jurist. - Arrangements are being made for a harvest thanksgiving at Ninety-Six on the Fourth of July. - Mr. J. C. Kennard of Ninety-Six bas raised twelve thousand, bushels of oats thb "eason. - Senator Hale, who presided over thc Maine Republican Stato Convention Tuesday, was very blunt in some of his references to President Arthur. Among other things he declared that tho Prosi deut "bas belonged to that portion of tho Republican party which has been in a minority, which is now in moro of a mi nority than ever, and of which he be lieved it will be healthful for American politics if it remained in that minority." Mr. Hale further said he did uot believe President Arthur was now bent on break ing down the great majority aud setting up that minority, bul that "if he was so bent, he is bound to make a moro deplo rable failure than any man who was ever President." Rut the" New York Tribune recites facts to show that tho President is bent on setting up tho very minority which Mr. Hale affects to despise. On last Sunday the I ben quitted the ne?t and refused to re turn. Mrs. Sbaw. who is a young and plump German woman, proposed that 1 she should try to batch out tho duck lings. She thought that if natural heat could bc applied to tho eggs they would hatch in a day or two, she thereupon placed the eggs nest her bosom, keening them covered with a thick woolen cloth. At night she kept the eggs beside her In bed. On Monday afternoon she was sensible of something pecking in one of the eggs, and upon taking it out saw that a duckling had forced its bill through tho sholl. An hour afterward a secoud duckling appeared. Mrs. Shaw had oc casion to go away, and she placed the two ducklings with thc remaining eggs in a box under the stove, nud returning repeated the incubating process. On Weduesday five niori> ducklings broko their shells. In thj other fivo eggs, which were broken by her, ducklings were found dead.
