This gentleman gave ouo of his humor ous und entertaining readings to a crowded audience in Masonic Hall on last Tuesday evening. Mr. Reade is a fine reader, and throws a great deal of vim and enthusiasm into his work, whereby be renders his en tertainments extremely interesting to his hearers. His audience was almost contin ually convulsed with laughter, except when he was rendering serious selections. Mr. Reado loves Iiis work, and has a de cided talent for it. He will return to An derson and give one morn reading on Thursday night. This performance will be for thc benefit of tho Baptist parsonage fund, and those who attend will not only have a most pleasant evening, but will bc [ doing good at thc samo lime. Tho Greeley Institute. Tho colored people of Anderson have ' done nobly in subscribing to the repair of their town school house the sum of about one hundred and seventy dollars. They are, of course, in limited circumstances, ? and these subscriptions from their small wages show that they appreciate education and arc willing to help in thc work of edu cating their children. They have a consid- , erablc amount to raise yet to complete their i building and furnish it, but they propose to do it themselves, and when finished tho as- ' sistance of thc white people will bc solicited to keep thc school open nine or ten months in the year with competent teachers. This assistance ought to be cheerfully rendered them, and we have no doubt it will bc. ', Tho French Broad Railroad. . The Board of Directors of the Atlantic apd French Broad Valley Railroad Com pany hold a very important meeting on last Thursday. They determined to remove the convicts to Williumston or in thc vicin ity, and commence work on that section of the road, the section between Bickens and Easley being now nearly completed. They also, by resolution, decided to send Col. D. F. Bradley, one of the Directors, and Capt. Wm. J. Kirk, Chief Engineer and Superin tendent, to Cincinnati and other points to represent tho interest of tho Road. These gentlemen will leav3 for Cincinnati in a short time. They propose working vigor ously to accomplis)* **ic completion of their Road and secure di. .ct through connection between Cincinnati and the Atlantic Coast. The Directors of this Company have shown great ability and energy in their work up to this time, and havo proven eminently sue 1 cessful.
