Tho people know that ive carried the State in that memorable canvass, and ar/e ratlsfled that lt was.dono legitimately and properly. THE fence law waa amondod so as to' apply to the whole of Spartonburg Coun ty, beginning on the first of January, 1881, and to so much of Oconco County as lies south of tho Au* Line Railroad, be ginning in JanuUry, 1881, provided a ma- I jorlty of tho citizens living within that territory vote in favor of tho chango after j thirty days' notice of tho election, which is to be hold as Boon as sovonty-five real estate owners petition for it. Road will pt?y fifty dollars per mile for tho fencing, and in that case the right of j way of tho Railroad is to be a lawful fence, otherwise the fence is to be placed on the South of the Railroad. Tho law was elso oxtendud to' all riff ?recy ville , County south of the Air I rino Railroad, to take cScct on tho first of March, pro vided tf??s Road will pay fifty dollars per milo for tho fencing, in return for which ita right of way ia to he mado a lawful fence The law was'likewise extended f.o nil of Pickons County ly lug south; of | tho Air Line Railroad, ie toke effect on the first of March next, provided tho Air Lino pays fifty dollars pur mile for the fe nco, end then <"V>i?rity of ??de?cc is'te pay One-half Of tho Halanno^- m?i..i, ->!ll probably be four hundred 'lollara for the pul of thia County. And why ts tills dono?,. Singly.! that we may pin our faith to tho fragmen tary remains of a party that hew forfeited our allegiance because it has long since for saken the paths its founders trod. In years gone by the very cynosure of the Democratic party was Free Trade. To-day the chief leaders of tho Northeastern Demo cracy are Protectivo Tariff men. "No pub lic money for internal improvements," was onto th? war,cry pf Ute Democracy. Grad ually, hs I have shown, the Democrats voto away millions ct a swoop to improve rivers' and harbors.
