The Columbia Register says that "tho off year" In politics "is fairly tho Fair year," and suggests to tho people of the State to endeavor to make ocr agricultural fairs this fall moro interesting and attractive than usual, and wo sincerely trust they will act upon the suggestion. There are many good and sufficient reasons why our f .icrs, mechanics, housewives, and everybody, ehoj^l contribute to tho interest, support and encouragement of these annual gather ings of our citizens and tho exhibitions of their industry, enterprise and progress. There is nothing that conduces more to the development of the resources of our coun try than these exhibitions of the products of the soil, of the work shop and of tho manufactory, and the greater the interest taken in them the greater tho good that fol lows. By reason of their calling thc farmery can contribute more than any other class to the success of these institutions. Col. E. M. He said 1 was opposed to the Road : 1st, because tl enterprise would not be worth the mono; 2nd, the sum to bo raised by taxation w so small it would not build tho Road ; 3 the Road would not benefit Anderson ; 4t the Road could not sustain itself from tl country through which it passed, and th smaU towns would spring up on tho Ro that would injure Anderson ; 6th, mee -wi favored taxation to build the Green wo and Augusta Railroad were now institut! legal proceedings to resist tbo payment tho taxes ; 6th, can not mortgage tho Rc when graded, because capitalists will i advance the money.
