Indeed, some weather prophets are predicting cold weather in this month and May. If their prediction ls verified the Mason will b? h very disastrous one, so far as fruits, vegetables, &?.. are concerned. J. H. Ycrmillion, who was arrested here by Mr. Jas. W. Brown some weeks ago, waa tried in Greenville last week for killing his uncle, Robert Holliday, in a quarrel at a whiskey wagon near Cooley's bridge about four years ago. Tba State was represented by Cols. W. H.-Perry and J. S. Cothran, wails the d?fense waa conducted by General McGowan and Judge Reed. Both the pros ecution and the defense were vigorous and able,' and -'tho Jury roUirned a verdict of guilty of manslaughter, with a recommen dation to mercy. Tho Judge sentenced VermlUlon to two years' imprisonment in the State Penitentiary, the least sentence which tho law allowa. It la thought that a strong effort will be made to secure s par don for the prisoner, aa ho baa a great deal of sympathy expressed for him by tho peo ple of the surrounding country. The following ia the I average per day : . 1st 30 daya, 30 lbs. or pints per day. Id 30 days, 384 lbs. or pinta per day. 8? 80 days, 87 Iba. or pints per day, or for the first 80 daya abe gave 41 gallons per day ; the next 30 days she gave a frac tion over 41 gallons per day ; and the third 80 daya she gave 4 gallona and five pinta per day. During fourteen days of this time ahe averaged 5 gallons per dey, and cs one day she gave 6i gallons. The total amount of milk given in the 90 daya waa 418 gallons aud 1 pint. From this amount of milk 137 pounds of butter was made. The cow is half Durham, of medium alze, and weighs C44 pounds livo weight. She baa been giving milk aiuce the lat day of June 1875, with the exception of a short inter ral last year, and still holds up in the quantity of milk she yields. The Executive Committee of the Y. M. C. A. in South Carolina hos Issued a circular relative to the third aunual reunion, which will take place on April 25th in Sumter, continuing in session three days. There is a great deal of interest in the coming con vention, and the Secretary of the Executive Committee has been receiving inquiries the past few weeks from al m out all over the State relative to it. The discussions of ouch questions as : How to reach young men, create an interest in Bible study, and push forward the State work, "together with kin dred subject*, wiit occupy uonio of the time of the convention. Bible readings will bo given, and praise, promise and open air meetings wi: 1 be held. The coming annual meeting promises to be the largest one ever held in the State. Arrangement? are being made with tho different railroad companies to allow delegates to travel at the usual re ter will entertain the members of the con vention, and Mr. W. P. Smith, of that town is the chairman of tho committee on hospitality. EXCURSION TO CHABLE8TCN. A grand excursion hos been arranged for Charleston over all the railroads in the State to carry persons to that city during the Easter festivals, at which time the Floral Fair will also take place- The State Press Association, thc Grand Division Sons of Temperance, tho Grand Lodge of Good Templara, and other interesting meetings will also be in session during thia time. The sale of tickets will begin on the 19th sud colitinuc to Tuesday, the 23rd inst., and will be good to return et *ny tim* within ten days from the day on which they are p orel io? ed. The faro from Pendleton will be $9.50 ; from Anderson, Williamston and Belton, $9, and from Kouca Path, $8.75. There will no doubt be a very large gather ing in Charleston of citizens from all parts of the State. GRAND CONCERT. There will be given in Masonic Hall in Anderson a Grand Oratorio Concert on the CTsning cf Friday tbs 12th Inst., ats o'clock, under the direction of Prof. W. H. Evans. The ente? ccinment will consist of a choice selection of solos, duetts and choruses, which will be a treat to all lovers of good music. The entertainment ia given for the benefit of the Baptist Parsonage fund, and we hope it will be liberally patronized.
