All Sorts of Paragraphs. ? A daughter of Jefferson Davis is soon to be married to a Memphis bank cashier. "? Carl Schurz owns up to having writ? ten speeches for members of Congress who couldn't write them for themselves. ? Carl Schurz has written a letter to a friend in which he states that he has decided to permanently reside in New York City. ? A man who has traveled says that it didn't take him long to find out that the brakemen own all the railroads and . . the clerks all the hotels. ? The tomb of ex-President Zachary Taylor, near Louisville, Ky., has been thoroughly repaired after having been entirely neglected for years. ? A party of prominent Prussians are prospecting around Atlanta, Ga., for the purpose of locating a large colony of their countrymen in that neighborhood. ? Ex-Queen Isabella is announced to re-enter her good City of Madrid on the feast of the Epiphany, January 6, 1876. That day is known as the day of kings and queens. ? Ah, that eager grasp of the hand ; that anxious inquiry about your wife and the babies; that kindly solicitude con . cerning your financial welfare. Yes, there's no mistaking it?he's a candidate. ? One passing through Arkansas doesn't see half as many' revolvers as he would have noticed two or three years ago. It isn't particularly because every , body is trying to be real good, but more because they have found out that a . good shotgun is more to be depended on. ? That the sun's rays are capable of kindling fires which sometimes, destroy large amounts of property, was fully dem? onstrated a few days since in a town in Vermont. A house was set on- fire by ? the rays of the sun falling upon several new milk-cans in the yard, and being reflected upon the clap-boards of the * house. An experiment was afterward made with the cans, by allowing the rays of the sun to be reflected upon pieces of cloth. The result was that the cloth was burned to ashes in a few moments. ? Quite a lively sensation was pro? duced on Saturday afternoon, at the Tivoli Theatre, in New York. It appears that a little child was performing on the trapeze, when officers, of the "Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Chil? dren" made a raid upon the stage and arrested the little acrobat, who is about six years old. At the time of the raid he was in the act of walkine a tight-rope, with a balancing pole. The performer and his father were taken into custody, placed in a carriage and driven to the residence of a justice. ? The mother evening a Detroit joker slipped a little pink love letter into the pocket of a staid old citizen as they were riding on the street car. Of course the old citizen's wife made a dive for his overcoat pockets as she passed through the hall, and when she had digested the love letter she determined to commit sui? cide. While going up stairs after her bonnet she got mad and changed her mind. Walking into the room where he sat before a cheerful fire she exclaimed: "Loves you better than her own life, ehl" . "Who?what?" he inquired.? . 4*'And she wants 'to know how that bald beaded xwife of yours gets along, eh!" "I really?I ean't-" "And she wants $50 to buy her a set of furs, does she!" "Why, Mary?why, what are you talking about?" "Oh, it's come out? I've got the proofs!" she shouted, making a dash for nis hair. The worthy man has sworn the most solemn oaths to his innocence; offered to let her employ a detective to shadow him; accounted for every hour of his absence during the last year, and furnishing fifty theories in re? gard to the letter, and yet the wife coldly remarks that she is staying there solely on the children's account.
