Voorhees, of Indiana, will deliver the annual address before the North Carolina State Fair, at Raleigh, in October next. The Fair will commence on the 13th and continue six days. ? Rev. Benjamin Thornton, a Baptist min? ister, was thrown from his buggy, in the vicini? ty of;-H?rtwell, recently, and was severely bruised. His advanced age made the_ injuries more serious than they would otherwise have been, irad his recovery has been retarded from the same'.cause. ? Mrs. Sally Clinkscales, wife of Capt. E. R. Holcombe, of Virginia, died at Capon Springs on the morjiing of the 22nd ult He was a member of the Confeder? ate Congress, and was regarded by ali as the ablest orator in that assemblage of Southern talent. ' He was sent by President Davis on a seeret mission to Canada, and accomplished all thatjcould have been done by any man uuder the"""most favorable circumstances. . Since the war he.has devoted himself to teaching, v -^:$fev. Gardner Spring, D. D., pastor of the Fifth"AviB"nue Presbyterian Church, New York, died in that city on the 25th ult., in the eighty ninth year of his age. Dr. Spring was one of j the brightest lights of his church, though in his early days, according to his own account of j his life, he was wild, reckless, and gave no promise of ever becoming a preacher. His father was a chaplain in the Continental army, and was an intimate friend of Aaron Burr, ac? companied the expedition to Canada under Ar? nold and Burr, and was on the Plains of Abra? ham when Montgomery fell.
