Thoro are ft number of gentlemen, botfy in. the town and country, who -subscribed to tho Intelligencer in person, assuring us they would promptly-hand over the small amount in a very few days; and:it'is for m the purpose of reminding such as have not complied with our terms,'that"we "are ancsious to regard them in a favorable . light and-trust they will not, longer un? dermine our confidence by withholding that which is our due.. A cross-mark will serve to show who is meant by. this paragraph, and we shall soon begin to adopt ^his plan to awaken then* memo-. - rice. Failq^in this, we may occupy*a coiftrcn or two with the names of such as aro receiving- our paper gratis. We bespeak for these gentlemen a liberal share'of patronage. -.-<?> THE ELECTION. . The to,wn was thronged on Monday, with our country friends, in attendance . upon the election for members of the Convention. We are happy to state that everything passed off quietly and with tho utmost good order prevailing. Tho officer commanding at that time, Lt. Col. Trowbridge, removed the usual guard from the customary quarters, and depu? tized Sheriff McGee and a posse of citi? zens to become the^conservators of the peace. This insured the excellent deco? rum which prevailed, and removed the sembla?ce even of military interforenco with tho exercise of the right of suffrage Tho returns of the election will be found in another column. -:?o?.-_ EXCHANGES. The Abbe'iille Bulletin has been chang? ed to the^bbovillc -Press, and will in fu? ture be conducted by Lee & Wilsons The Editor, W. A. The Newbcrry Herald comes to. us con? siderably enlarged and improved. In? creased business and prosperity are the"' cadses of this change for tho better, and we congratulate tho cnorgctie and worthy proprietors upon their wholesome condi? tion. It is a noticeable fact, that the ad " vantages of newspapers are" better ap? preciated in this section than at any time durrng our long experience in the business, and with our brcthen of the press, wo may felicitate each other upon tho- auspicious omen.' A reading pepple^are necessarily mtcMigent^nd if the war brought no oth? er blessing with its catalogue of woes, tho desire for light and information, through the medium of nowspapors, counter bal? ances some of its minor hardships, and fissures us that the masses arc eager for knowledge and thirst for correct versions of current events.
