There are six blind tigers in Spartan burg* according to an article published in the Associated Prohibition Press. The article was prepared by a staff corre spondent of that publication, after maki.ig an investigation of the liquor traffic in tins State. While in South Carolina he paid special attention to the blind tiger situation, giving a list of the cities and towns where tigers flourish and the number of tigers in each place. The greatest number of blind tigers are in Charleston, with Co lumbia second, John’s Island third and Spartanburg and Greenville fourth. The prohibition writer makes the fol lowing interesting report on “the fruit age of lawlessness and corruption in the wake of the State aloon system.” He says: “There are 469 Federal tax receipts of ‘retail liquor dealers’ and ‘retail dealers in malt liquors’ now in force in South Carolina. “Including those that have been vot ed out during the last ycir, there are 107 regular and thirty-six beer dispen- This leaves a total * "A most striking fact comes to the surface of this blind tiger situation: Of the 328 blind tigers of the Estate only twenty-nine are to be found in pro hibition districts The balance of 297 are all located in dispensary towns and cities. THE BUND TIGERS. “In this connection, it is interesting to compare with the above, the dispen sary cities of the State and their condi tion as to blind tigers. “Below is given a list of the towns and cities of South Carolina where there are more Federal tax receipts in ' force than there are dispensaries dur ing the past year. The number noted as ‘blind tigers, represents the excess of tax leceipl* over dispensaries.
