THE AU RECORDER. AIKEN, S. C., SEPT. 26.1890. New Orleans Times Democrat says: It is better for the eelf-respecting peo ple (•fSc'Ulh Carolina to swallow Till man, though he be a very nauseating dose, rather than that the Democracy should be divided and the State pass under Republican rule. The craze which has lifted him to the crest of the political wave will soon spend its force, and when his term of office shall have expired be will be regarded as a nonentity by those men who are now shouting for him most loodly.and he will be dumped out of the political arena of South Carolina with the same vigor that be thrust himself into it. Tillman’s cenduct all through the campaign has demonstrated the fact thathe is of small calibre and such a man devoid of all the traits of char acter necessary to a successful leader of men cannot long keep the people under the sway of his influence, and when bis star goes down it will neyer rise again. The trestle of the bridge at Long Cane, on the Georgia, Carolina and Northern Railroad, is being pushed to completion, and will be ready for the track by the 1st of October. The cross-ties have been laid on the road bed from Long Cane to Abbeville, and the rails will be put down in a few days. Abbeville expects to have a kind of gala week when the first train comes in over this road. Why It Is Popular. Because it has proven its absolute merit over and over again, because it has an unequaled record of cures, pe- cause its business is conducted in a thoroughly honest manner, and be cause it combines economy and strength, being the only medicine of which “100 Doses One Dollar” is true —these strong points have made Hood’s Sarsaparilla the most success ful medicine of the day. Prince George appears to be a jolly good fellow. The other night in Mon treal he and a lieutenant sarteil out to see the town. In one of the dark streets they were attacked by six roughs. The prince and the lieuten ant, placing| their backs together, knocked oat the roughs in true Brit ish style. While they were looking at .the six prostrate roughs a couplejof thick-witted French jtoliceraen came along and carried the prince, the lieutenant aud the toughs to the sta tion house.
