Scamps. Supplies of the new styles of post stamps have teei received at the Ai ken post-office aid are now on sale. The new stamps are smaller than the old ones, and of Afferent colors. The 1 cent stamps artiof deeper blue, and the figures indicating the denomina tion are placed either side of the Franklin head, instead of immedi ately below, as in the old design. The twos are of a bril iant carmine, with the same changl in the positions of the figures. Thebead of Washington is of slightly dfferent design from that on the old g-een stamp. The ones and twos are the only de nominations reodyed here thus far, as the post-mast'ic has still on hand a supply of the oMRamps of the larger denominations. \ Of these last the threes are deep forple, with the same arrangement of figures, and orna mented with a Ifm of Andrew Juck- son. The tens I .re green, with the head of Daniel jVebster, and the fa miliar face ofi Kentucky’s Harry Clay looks out from the dark blue ground of the fifteens. The thirties ere the first black stamps the Uuted States Govern ment lias ever issued. On them are seen the famil:*r features of the fa mous Democrat. Thomas Jefferson, with the hair curing over his fore head, and bis rubied shirt front as immaculate as tve 1 *. The nineties, die highest denomina tion issued, are orange, and bear the rather unfamil»r face of the great naval comman<er, Commodore Perry. The Slate Democratic Committee. The sub-coninittee of tire State Democratic Executive Committee held a ineetingFriday morning in the office of Col. Jitni C. Haskell. The principal matbr considered was the preparation of tb address to the Dem ocratic voters < the State, which it bad decided tdrisue at the meeting of the full comm.bee the night previous. It seem? that o« address is brought forth by reaso of the Shell mauifes- to and the propned March convention. Drink Auguta Brewing Company's Beer. It is pr4 and wholesome. —The Columbia Register says. “J. Hendrix McLane. who wears better clothes since Harrison was elected President and seems to have solved the problem of living without work, is secretly trying to organize a politi cal movement in Richland County. As he came fairly and squarely over into the Republican camp by his ac tions at the meeting of the Republi can League at Nashville, It must be taken for granted that his present purpose is to extend the membership of the Republican party and that alone. It is learned on good authority that McLane is advocating the pla cing in the field of an opposition can didate to the Democratic nominee for Congress in this district at the next election.” Full line of Stationery at Hahn & Co’s. Mrs. Ann Field. —The Kansas City syndicate which is building the Augusta electric street railroad is pushing the work right along. Information was received Tuesday from Engineer Knight, who is now in Kansas City, that he bad purchased nineteen cars for the new road. Nine of the cars are open for summer use aud the other ten aie closed. The purchase was made for the stem line that will run out from Marbury street to the Turpin place, which the projectors are now rapidly I ushing to completion for use by une 1. Broad street from Marbury street up and Marbury are lined with steel rails and ties which are being placed in position as fast as they are received at the depot. It is reported that the company has ordered out a 500-horse power pngine and boiler, and that a site on Twiggs street on the south line has been purchased and will be occupied as the headquarters of the road, from which the motive power will be furnished. If the ru mor is correct steam aud hot water power, as at first comteniplated, will be used to propel 4he cars. TEAS.
