These estimates are based large ly on careful inquiry instituted by the State Comptrollers on behalf of the Tradesman. They estimate the whites and blacks as follows: Whites 12,128, 430, blacks 7,270,720. It is estimated L/hut there are to-day In the Southern States 394,930 whites from Northern States, against 244,885 in 1880. The iforeign-born whites in the South to day are estimated by the Governors, lin their reports to the Tradesman, at 1643,043, against 420,871 in 1880.
