Those who j are uepuainted with the colored race know that the* men cniraged in this undertaking arc* not apt to meet with any opposition in organizing the so cieties if the white people do not in terfere. There are serious objections, however, to the Knights of Labor, and due effort should he put forth to stop the work of organizing without delay. It would be well to find out what white men are at the head of this movement in the South and give them to understand that they must desist. Hoi id advice and plain talk would be of benefit to the negroes. 11 is much easier to take this matter in hand now than it will be in the future. White labor has found that the Knights are not all that they antici pated, and colored laborers will have a more unhappy experience if they get into the clutches of the Knights of Labor. It means strife from the com mencement to the end of the year. If farmers employ farm hands that are members of the Knights of Labor, the chances are against their making a crop, for there will he so much stri king at the farmer for higher wages that the grass will likely go untonch- ed; and when the cotton picking time eomeg it will also bring trouble. The farmers cannot keep the colored pe’o- f ile from joining the Knights of Labor f they fail to follow their advice, but they can keep from giving work to those who join.
