N.C,Oct. ii—Many canard- ! have dountb'ss migin-.ted m North Carolina, but the truthful story of the phenomenon at Charlotte, makes them but poor stories. A great sen sation prevails at Charlotte, and caused by a pair of trees, in the vi-inhy of which regularly each (jay, at k o’clock, a showej of rain falls. The phenomenon was yesterday witnessed by hundreds of citizens, before whose gaze llie rain fell for two hours. At So’ciok to-day an immense crowd had assembled awaiting the recur rence of the phenomenon. The skies were perfectly clear, the sun shining brightly, and the ground in the vicinity was dry and dusty, owing to the long drought. Two scrub by oak trees stand in a yard at the corner of Ninth and D streets There is nothing unusual about the of the trees, save that tiiey are not very well filled with leaves. At 3 o’clock the expectant multitude was rewarded by the ap pearance of raiii. It began coming down betwfc i the trees i:» a kind ol mist, which gradually increased until it was agentle but genuine rainfall. Though the raiii was falling before the eyes of all present, no one could tell from whence it came. It could he seen coming down, from a point above the tops of the trees and con tinued to full until 5 o'clock, and that was all that could be realized. Evcrji individual present could see it plainly an umbrella held under the falling wa ter was quickly dripping wet. Some oJ the water was gathered in a water proof garment and was f<und to bo icy cold. Among those present was Mr. James A. Harry, the sergeant in charge of the signal station, who was so impressed with what he witnessed that lie reported the occurrence t ■ A Kald Exported Frniu “El Coyot« •’«n«f Ilia «»a»r-<7 ni 800 Kaudits.
