FORT MILL MATTERS. Reception for Mrs. Elliott SpringsPersonal Notes. Fort Mill, November 24.?-Complimenting Mrs. Elliott Springs, the attractive bride of Captain Elliott W. Springs, Mrs. George Fish entertained more than 100 guests at a reception on Wednesday afternoon. The heme on -White street was exquisitely decorated throughout with potted plants, roses and chrysanthemums. Little Miss Eleanor Sp-att received the cards in the front hall, and the guests were welcomed by Misses Dorothy Bergstrom and Agnes Link, who presented, tnem to me rewciung ?u?, which was composed of the hostess, the guest of honor, Mrs. Elliott Springs, Mrs. Leroy Sprirgs, Mrs. Addie A. Odell, and Mrs. R. H. Vlter. Receiving in the library were Mi.-'ses Edna Tindal and Lana Parks, and from here the guests were ushered into the dining room, where Misses Lucy Fish, Julia Boyd, Marjorie Mills, Ruth Meacham, and Esther Meacham served a delicious salad course with salted nuts and punch. The dining table was covered with a Madera luncheon cloth, and adorned with a large silver basket with chrysanthemums. The out of town guests were Mrs. Leroy Springs and Mrs. H. R. Rice of Lancaster; Mrs. Harry S. Adams and Mrs. Rowland Hill of Chester; Mrs. Mabel A. Stewart of Charlotte, and Mrs. Addie A. Odell of Concord. A. M. Aiken of Chester, visited friends in Fort Mill on Wednesday of the past week. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Link of Laurens, S. C., were week-end guests of Mr. and Mrs. C. S. Link. Maj. James D. Fulp and R. A. Barnwell of Abbeville, S. C., spent the past week-end in Fort Mill, guests of Mr. and Mrs. O. A. Jones. Miss Dorothy Ruff of Ridge way, S. C., was a guest this week of Miss Thelma Ott. Mrs. R. C. Pearson of Spartanburg, S. C., was a recent Visitor to her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Parks. SOUTH CAROLINA NEWS ? The directors of Lockhirt mill have determined on the immediate erection of one hundred new houses for'operatives. * ? The state highway commission has decided upon a new rule at to the issuance of demonstration tags. Hereafter such tags will be issued only in the names of the salesmen using them at a charge of $2 Instead of 50 cents and the salesmen will be held responsible for their abuse. ? So far there are two candidates for the speakership of the house of representatives, Col. Edgar A. Prown, chairman of the state Democratic Executive c,. imlttee and Thomas McNeillan, of Charleston, a former speaker pro ' tem. The friends of both are making state wide canvasses and both claim to be confident of success. ? Representative W. F. Stevenson on Tuesday, reintroduced a bill previously offered by him for the erection of a monument at .Cowpens battle ground in Cherokee county, South Carolina in memory of Gen. Daniel Morgan and those who participated with him in the famous engagement, January 17, 1781. The bill sets aside $30,00(1 to be used for the purpose, under the direction of the secretary of war, on condition that the Cowpens Battle Ground Association or other parties shall donate not more than ten acres of the battle ground to the United States on which to erect the monument. Dr. Carl Van Ruch, an eminent tuberculosis specialist, who died in Asheville on November 6, left a bequest of $700,000 for scientific research into the prevention and cure of tuberculosis .. IVilhelm Cuno has accepted a commission from President Ebert to organize a new cabinet for Germany, and has completed the work. He is the fifteenth chancellor to hold the post in the new republic and is the first one who is to be classed as unpartisan. Neither is he a member of the parliament The administration merchant marine bill was formerly reported in the house on Tuesday J. J. Brown, the Georgia Commissioner of Agriculture comes forward with a proposition that would secure the cooperation of the business interests of Georgia for the erection of a plant to manufacture calcium arsenate for the farmers of the state to poison boll weevil with Governor Albert J. Grocsbeck, of Michigan. on Tuesday announced definitely that he would not appoint Henry Ford to the senatorship made vacant by the resignation of Truman H. Newberry. Postmaster E. K.
