I made with the railroad administration j x or the labor board it can be shown that | because of the great increase in the efficiency of railroad employes there has | been no practical increase in wage cost i compared to product. Messrs. Lee. Carter and Sheppard also pointed out that the railroad employes as piece workers are laid off and not paid when ! railroad traffic is light. They also took | the position that before the railroad | could present a request for wage reductions to the board they would'first have to present them to the men and negotiations failing there, then appeal to the'board. t OBITUARY DIED?Suddenly at his home in Dallas, Texas, yesterday morning of hemorrhage of the lungs, Mr. HUGH C. York, S. C., January 29, 1921. It J. A. MARION, Referee in Bankruptcy. TO THE TAXPAYERS OF SOUTH CAROLINA. A T a convention of Taxpayers, held 111 the Capital January 11, 1921. a memorial was adopted and presented to the Governor and both branches of the General Assembly, protesting; against increased appropriations, and urging the strictest economy in the State and County governments. It is apparent from the published reports of the Acts of the General Assembly that they are not disposed to heed the appeal of this convention, as indicated by voting down the recommendation of the Speaker of the House to hold appropriations down to a maximum of $0,000,000. Therefore we, the committee appointed to represent the Taxpayers' Convention. do hei eby call a convention of the taxpayers to meet at their respective counlv-seats at 11.00 o'clock, Monday, February 7th, to elect delegates, not less than five from each county, to meet in the Capitol at 3.30 o'clock, on Wednesday. February 9th. to consider what further action may he wise upon this important issue.
