Yorkvllle Enquirer At this time when the issues seem to involve the sane and conservative expenditure of the money of the country and especially the tax money of the people, I feel it to be my duty to attempt to call the attention of the people of this state to some of the results obtained for tax money spent in the recent remodeling of the state hospital at Columbia, S. C? if you will allow me the space in and privilege of your paper. i was at this institution during n great part of this work and speak of personal observation. The wards, as is known to those who kept track of tills appropriation, were torn out on tiie inside and rebuilt along modern, up-to-date plans. The plans I do not criticise; but the quality of the work anil material, which stands today to speak for Itself. The plastering has fallen from the walla, the floors have sunk on each aide of the centre, the walla of the atalrwaya of the fire escapes have collated and in aome instancea have been rebuilt; the baaeboarda of the warda have pulled apart, due to shrinkage or the nettling of the floor, to auch an extent that the cornera have come off entirely and had to lie replaced by tin covers. * The cracks caused by the separation of the baaeboarda were painted black about three days before the legislative committee came through after this rebuilding and these cracks will now be found to be covered by flat pieces of moulding sawed for that purpose. The roof over this work leaks and in several places the water has ruined the walla, although the wnlla are very badly cracked from some other cause. This heing the time when results can lie obtained toward correcting such through the action of the |s-ople and feeling that such should not he allowed to pass without their knowledge, I ask you to give this matter the publicity It deserves.
