Mori than a thousand men, woiiicii and children, most of them la in? mothers, fat hens, wives, brothers, sisters and sweethearts of the lnl iiitrymi'n, looked on while the crack I'aliinUu organization made its tinal march across the parade ground where lor nearly twelve months it has been working to gain that excellent military flicieney that is now its own. It was a Krand spectacle, that parade and hcer after cheer went up from the visitors as platoon after platoon of plenum specimens or j?n>si..ui hood made almost perfect by days and months of hard and steady military practice, marched in perfect step and in the straightest of lines past the reviewing station where the reviewing fiiet j- was stationed. Though in the main the personnel of the regiment as constituted at present is uuite new and lias l>een recruited donna tin- past year largely by draft induction, one more or less familiar with the personnel of the regiment as a state organization during the past several years, could recognize scores of men w) o were soldiers therein long before the t'nited States found it necessary to take a hand in the World War. York county has peculiar int< resr in the 11 nth regiment of Infantry because of the fact that three companies of the organization were organized among York county hoys, viz., < "0111 puny ?J. of Fort Mill, captain Lindsay McFadden, commanding. i."#.it Mill, faimain ?~oui|?aiiy >.. ..i ..... Sam W. I'arks, commanding; and the Regimental Supply company which was organized among men of Port Mill and vicinity and which until a few mouths ago was commanded by Paptain Joseph K. Hart of Yorkville. In addition to the volunteer personnel of t h?*s?* rii hi patties front York county. which total several hundred, quite a lnrt:? iiuuiIh r ot York comity nu-n who have boon inducted Into the military service by draft are included In the regimental personnel and most of them arc assigned to one of the three companies from their county. A number are scattered among other companies of the regiment. Among the well known York counly men who are oiticcis oi the regiment are Lieut. Pol. Thomas B. Spratt, of Port Mill and Pnpt. James W. Pamphcll of Plover, who is second in command of the hospital corps of the regiment. The Pirst South Purolina was one of tiio lirst organizations to come to 'amp Sevici after the camp was established last spring and much of the pioneer work of building the camp and clearing the way for the other organizations of the Thirtieth liivtsion devolved upon this regiment.
