The Turks gave it to be understood J that they could not think of accepting the terms proposed by the allies, and wanted to submit the whole question to | the European powers for settlement; but the allies stood firm in their de- < mands and the Turks began to cave in. \ As matters now stand the prospect 3 for a peaceful settlement seems good.
