? Columbia, June 27: Following the receipt of a letter, requesting: an opinion from the attorney general's office, from Dr. Robert Wilson, chairman ot the state board of health, the situation developed here this afternoon that the attorney general's office had also been asked to render an opinion to the state board of penitentiary directors, in the hosiery mill matter. It will probably be two weeks before an opinion is rendered. Attorney General Lyon is out of ?ae state and Assistant Attorney ~?en?ral DeBruhl stated this evening wiia; he was not certain, but that he <11^ not think he would render any "opinion until after July 1. Governor Blease received Tuesday afternoon a reply from Dr. Robert Wilson of Charleston, chairman of the state board of health, notifying him that the hosiery mill matter has been referred to the attorney general's office. Governor Blease. a few days ago, wrote Dr. Wil son to find out what power the executive committee of the state board of health has as to the abolishing of the hosiery mill. In his letter to Governor Blease, Dr. Wilson states that he was not clear in his own mind as to the power of the executive committee in such a matter as that of the hosiery mill, and he, therefore, asks an opinion thereon from the attorney general's office. Mr. DeBruhl received the request for an opinion on the afternoon mail. The curious situation presents itself that should the hosiery mill matter reach the courts, the attorney general's office would be In the position that It would have to represent both the state board of health and the state board of penitentiary directors. Furthermore, Attorney General Lyon is a member of the state board of health. The governor has received nothing yet from Solicitor Cobb in response to the recent letter. AT THE CHURCHES. METHODIST.
