? Charleston , May 3: The Federal statutes restricting the shipment of quarantined cattle were sustained in a decision handed down by Judge > Brawley in overruling a demurrer in the case of the United States against the Southern railway. The decision is of importance and in refusing to sustain the contention of the defendant corporation that the act applies only to the initial carrier, the whole law is preserved in its integrity. In overruling the demurrer Judge Brawley held the indictment to be good and sufficient in law, and it was also ordered that the defendant might be allowed to plead in the indictment in accordance with the statutes in such cases. Strenuous efforts have recently been put forth by the department of agriculture to prevent the shipment of cattle from sections where ticks and similar ailments beset live stock into sections which are free of the afTection. Many cases have been made recently, " nf nmmlnence have been made to know of the existence of the statutes by the infliction of the penalty. The railroads have been esoecially made to feel the force of the Federal statutes. Judge Brawley commended the statute for its mani^ fest advantages and benefits, and urged a full compliance with its requirements. ? S. S. Crittenden, one of the oldest and best known citizen of Greenville, a Confederate veteran and author of a history of the early settlement of Greenville county, committed suicide Wednesday by shooting himself with a pistol. Yorkville Creamery Association Why You Should I'se Our Creamery Butter: Because it is made from pure, sweet milk, taken from the farms of the most intelligent farmers in South Carolina, who milk Jersey and Guernsey cows of the best breeding1. Because the sweet milk is first heated to a very high degree in order to kill any undesirable germ life, and is then passed through a large De Laval Separator, which removes all animal matter and every possible odor. | Because our cream is carried through a ripening process, which I ??J/v?.Ai/\r\o oil r\f thn nlnn H If _ |?niprn,\ ??. v. .....v ferent fats in the cream. Because it goes through a combination churn which churns, salts and works the butter uniformly, giving it a rich and delicious nutty flavor, such as no other butter can have. Because it is worked and handled over machinery that is washed by water from a thoroughly sanitary well, bored down to the eternal rocks. No germs are carried around on our products. Because it is made under the famous Elgin system. Because we have a butter-maker with eight years' experience and he knows how. Because it is wrapped in Parchment and enclosed in a Carton. Because it is guaranteed in every way. and is shipped every day from the churn and you can always get it fresh. We will not sell Butter or Buttermilk hereafter to the retail trade, as it would not be fair to those who handle the same. See your groceryman for the goods. It is cheaper in the long run and better all the time. Respectfully, Yorkville Creamery Asso. FIRST COME, FIRST SERVED. . SUIT CASES! HAND BAGS! TELESCOPES! YORK DRUG STORE Look Before You Leap. It is a well known fact that many otherwise sensible business men leap before they look when it comes to the matter of buying life insurance. This should not be the case, as this one transaction is by far the most important from a business standpoint in the lives of a majority of men. Some men are inspired by a desire to favor a friend or relative. .That class has been advised by a noted insurance expert not to .help friends in this way unless entirely convinced that the contracts and companies represented by them were, to say the least, the equal of those of other agents, but instead to buy the best policy in the best company, and if the buyer still desired to help the friend or relative to make him an outright donation ten or twenty dollars, according to amount of insurance desired. Recently Mr. J. H. Haskins, the Mutual Benefit agent at Fort Gaines, Ga., along with the representatives of a number of other good companies, were competing for the application of a prominent citizen who was determined to look before he leaped. Among the agents after the business was a brother of the prospective insurer. Mr. Haskins showed what the Mutual Benefit had to offer and got the business, as all Mutual Benefit agents do where there is competition or the Insurer takes the trou lile to investigate. SAM M.
