OGDEN NOTES. Farmers Too Busy For a Full Vote? Protracted Meeting? All the Schools Closed?Other Matters. Oor-wuHJiidence of the Yorkville hnauirer. Ogden, September 10.?As a rule, there was a very light vote cast In the second primary elections at this place as well as other precincts, but the voters turned out better last Tuesday than usual. There were 67 votes cast as against 78 in the first primary. And every voter who went to the polls had to iose valuable time from his work for these are busy days on the farm. There appeared to be more interest taken in the race between Boyd and Gordon for county supervisor, than I anv other part of the county ticket. The "contribution" box for the Bryan campaign fund was provided as per request of State Chairman Wylie Jones, and some of the voters contributed. The protracted meeting which commenced at Antioch Methodist church Sunday night. August 30, and in which the pastor, Rev. W. A. Beckham was assisted by Rev. J. W. Speake, came to a close last Sunday night, with the largest congregation present that attended any of the other services. The attendance was very good throughout the meeting, considering that' it came in a most busy time for the people. Rev. Mr. Speake, who did all the preaching and is a most forceful and impressive speaker, was bothered with a right severe throat trouble the last few days of the meeting, but he held up wonderfully well, preaching twice every day. The results accomplished were very gratifying. There were thirty-seven additions to the church? thirty-five by profession and two by certificate. Another result is a general spiritual awakening in the church and community, which promises to have lasting effects. Mr. Speake was urged to remain over and continue the meeting through this week, but it was impossible for him to stay any longer than Sunday night, as he was scheduled to assist Rev. J. N. Isom in a meeting in Greenville this week, beginning Monday night. Since January 1st of this year, there has been forty additions to Antioch church by profession of faith and a total of sixty-one on the entire charge consisting of four churches. Th? Ogden school closed rather ab ruptly the first of the month on account of the funds of this district being: exhausted. The board of trustees were under the impression that there was money enough to run the school until September 11th. but they learned about the first of the month that the funds were already exhausted, and all the schools in the district were closed at once. Since cotton picking- has commenced in this section, the fact is developing that the crop will be much lighter than was expected a few weeks ago. Cotton Is opening rapidly and as hands are verv scarce, as usual, it will be impossible to gather the crop as fast as it opens. The farmers of this section are not willing to sell any cotton at the present price, and the indications are that very little of the new crop will be put on the market until the "bulls" get into better control of the situation, which it Is confidently believed thev will do later on. Mr. S. E. Steele met with what came very near being a serious accident one day last week. While cutting com tops his knife slipped and the keen blade struck his left arm near the wrist cutting an ugly gash, and all but severing a large vein. The wound bled profusely for some time. vntors nf Oeden nreclnct stood bv "Cotton" Smith last Tuesday, giving' him 50 out of 67 votes cast. A few days before the first primary election, some five or six citizens were discussing county politics. As usual the newspapers were brought Into the discussion. The Enquirer was censured by one of the number for the stand it had taken on certain questions and Issues that were being discussed In the campaign, when another one of the group said that for a long time he was somewhat prejudiced against The Enquirer because that paper held views. Just the opposite to his on a number of questions, but he had come to the conclusion that it came nearer giving all the facts and giving evervbodv a fairer show in politics than any other paper he had read. This is onlv another Instance of the fact that while a pewsnaner that stands for the right and what it believes to be the best interests of the people,'that has views of its own and Is not afraid to express them, and dares to do its duty to the public, regardless of consequences, will make some enemies, it will evidently get the support and sympathy of all true and loyal citizens of the county. Mr. W. H. Dunlao. has returned from the sulnhur springs at Shelbv. N. C.. somewhat improved in health. Miss Carrie Newsom will return this week from an extended visit to relatives in Tampa. Fla.
