of North Carolina. Georgia, Alabama
and Virginia for a reduction in passenger
rates both as to tickets and
mileage. Governor Ansel declined to
attend the conference that was held
in Atlanta between the governors of
North Carolina, Georgia and Alabama,
but it is understood that he had
a pleasant meeting with Mr. Finley
in Washington recently when the governor
was there attending a convention.
It Is recalled also In this con-?
nectlon that President Finley in a
banquet speech in Charleston recently
said that if the North Carolina rates
were Anally upheld the roads would
A. extend the same rates to South Carollna
territory without any legislation
seeking to compel, them to do so.
? Union special of December 31,
to Spartanburg Journal: When the
board of canvassers met this morning
to canvass the vote and declare
the result in the recent election held
here to decide the question of prohibition
or a dispensary' for Union county,
a protest was filed by J. A. Sawyer
and A. K. Hamblin in behalf of twenty-seven
members of the Citizens'
League, which was recently organized
for bettering the moral conditions of
Union. The grounds on which the protest
was filed are that no registration
I certificates were required to be shown
at a number of precincts in the county;
that the managers at several of the
precincts were not sworn as required
by law and that the polls at a number
of precincts were not opened at the
hour required by law and because of
the failure of the boxes to be opened
on time a number of citizens were deprived
of their privilege of voting as
their duties took them elsewhere.
Soon after the election commissioners
met and the protest had been filed, B.
F. Townsend and J. C. Hughes argued
that the commissioners should proceed
with the count and that the protest
should be filed afterwards. The
commissioners decided, however, not
" to canvass the vote until next Monday.
At the meeting of the election
commissioners next Monday all objec
tlons will be heard.

What Makes It?
"Stock Broker!" Nothing in that name
that seems to give it "go!"
Perhaps it is the advertising, and not
name that counts you know.
Why don't the other fellow try it if that
is what does the good?
He might save all his commissions by
so doing, if he only would.
So, let me have your business if you've
stocks or bonds to sell,
With printer's ink to give me aid experience

And other men who think they are wise

Will find that those who advertise have

YORKVILLE HARDWARE CO.
iOts In Westerleigh
Westerleigh is the most desirably
cated suburb of Yorkville, and Is
ase to the business centre of the
wn.
It is the only place within the corirate
limits where a negro can buy a
iltable building lot at a reasonable
ice.
Already some thirty-five or more
ts have been bought by substantial
groes.
There are only about fifty more lots
r sale.
The prices are low, very low considlng
the value, and the terms are
slly within the means of any indusious
laborer.
Negroes who desire to invest in lots
r the purpose of building homes, or
r the purpose of getting good profits
ithin a year or two should see me
