RUSSIA AND ENGLAND. More or Lou Excitement on Account of the Hull Incident. While there is good reason to hope for an amicable settlement of Russia's bad break in firing on British fishing vessels in the North sea a few days ago, still the situation is a strained one and the danger of war is j great. News of yesterday from England was to the effect that the whole country has been aroused to a high pitch of excitement, and the people are urging that the government give Russia to understand that nothing more of this kind will be tolerated. The information is that Foreign Secretary Landsdowne has had an extended conference with King Edward and sent a strong note to the Russian government; but as yet there has been no reply, St. Petersburg advices claiming that the admiralty has not yet received any report of the occurrence. There Is an unofficial suggestion from St. Petersburg, however, to the effect that the Russians were expect' * ?? In IKo TTncHnh iii& a. Japanese aiuu.iv u* ? channel and that the Russian officials probably mistook the British fishermen for Japanese engaged in laying mines. It is said that Russia realizes that a horrible blunder has been committed and that she will do all she p can to make reparation. The American consul it Hull has advised the government at Washington that the situation is extremely critical and that the outcome is a matter of grave doubt. AT THE CHURCHE8.
