urer of the Cherokee Lime works, and of the Turner Lime works and was a director in numerous other enterprises, including the First National Bank of Yorkvllle. He was forty-seven years of age and was unmarried. ? Chief of Police R. N. Westbrook of Albany, Ga., made a personal attack on Dr. Len G. Broughton of Atlanta, in a barbershop at Albany, Ga. Dr. Broughton is a sensational preacher who is always in a row with somebody. His specialty is to inquire into the private shortcomings and misdemeanors of persons who occupy official positions and to state such information as he can gather along this line from his pulpit. Recently he stated that Westbrook had been removed from a house of ill fame in a drunken condition and said he could support the charge with affidavits. Westbrook /Oalmorl that the atnrv was untrue: but nevertheless hunted Broughton up, found him In a barber shop and attacked him with a rawhide. The preacher defended himself with an iron cuspidor, and it is claimed by bystanders that he had a pistol. Interference of .people near prevented any serious harm from being done. There is but little doubt as to the substantial truth of Broughton's charges; but the feeling is somewhat divided. There are those who hold that if Broughton were interested he should have proceeded against Westbrook legally, and these same people hold that if the charges were untrue as Westbrook claims, then there was no need for violence.
