Reports from the wheat crop continue to grow more favorable. Fall oats have suffered considerably during the past month ; but their Condition is improving. Death of Mr. J. K. S. Meek. Mr. J. R. S. Meek, formerly of York county, died nt his home in Warren, Arkansas, last Monday afternoon at about 3 o'clock. Mr. Meek left this county for the west a few years before the breaking i lit of the war and has since been a resident of Arkansas. For many years he conducted a banking business at Warren, and at the lime of his death was one of the most prominent and esteemed citizeus of that place. His last visit to this county was made some three years ago. At the time of his death he was about 71 years of age. Another Reese Trip. A few days ago, W. H. Newbold, Esq , of Chester, received a photograph of the suspect. In his judgment the photograph was that of Reese, and be telegraphed for Sheriff Logan, who also thought that the resemblauce was remarkably close. In fact, he decided that a trip to Tennessee w as fully war ranted and accordingly set out. It is easily probable that both Mr. Newbohl and Sheriff Logan may be mistaken ; but of that a more definite statement can be made when the sheriff returns. MKRE-MRNTIUN. The Porto Kican newspapers claim that the financial condition of the island is worse than during the darkest days of Spanish rule. There is a proposition ou foot looking to the sending of 1,000 Cuban school teachers to the summer school at Havana next summer. It isthought that this will do a great deal toward the Americanizing of Cuba. There is a big labor disturbance in the island of Martinique, and the French news papers are charging the responsibility to paid emissaries sent out by the I United States. Porto Kico's Coffee Exports.? The interesting statement was made last Thursday by the war department thof the tr>l?l evnnrts of coffee fl'OIIl the islaud of Porto Rico from the dute of American occupation to November 30, 1899, was 53,243,025 pounds, vul* t ued at $6,139,953. Of the amount exported duriog the period mentioned Fiance received 24,551,749 pounds, valued at $2,583,683; Spain, 8,102,696 pounds, valued at $960,729; Italy, 5,727.557 pounds, valued at $662 781. The United Slates received 2,908,642 pounds, valued at $269,339. The an iiual average exports of coffee during the years 18S71S91 was 40,349,000 pounds, valued at $4,945,000.
