The general assembly put in the eater part of last Friday electing nitentiary directors and trustees of inthrop and the South Carolina culje. The first election was for penitentiadirector, to succeed Mr. T. J. Cunngham, resigned to take the position census supervisor of the Fifth disict. There were two candidates?Dr. M. Rowland, of Spartanburg, and Mr. A. Ragsdale, of Chester. Dr. Rowjd was elected by a vote of 101 43. Next came the election of two new imbers of the board to serve for two ars each. The nominees were essrs. W. D. Mann, Jeremiah Smith, jorge W. Fairey, \V. B. Love, D. B. urifoy. The vote resulted, Love, I ; Fairey, 17 ; Mann, 70 ; Smith, 45 ; urifoy, 47. Messrs.
