The Governor has .refused to pardon Wesley Smith, who was convicted at the November term, 1886, in York county, of larceny from the field, and sentenced by Judge Aldrich to one year's imprisonment in the Penitentiary. ? The "Survivors' Association," a society for the preservation of Confederate memories and the assistance of needy Southern soldiers, has been organized in Columbia and Col. A. C. Haskell elected president. ? Beyond considerable pain and inconvenience, no bad results followed the accident. ? Col. Edward Croft, a well-known citizen of Greenville and a member of the Board of Visitors of the South Carolina Military Academy, has been appointed United States Deputy Collector of Internal Kevenue for the Fifth South Carolina Division, with headquarters at Greenville. The appointment is made to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Col. J. L. Black, which takes effect October 31st. The division includes the counties of Greenville, Laurens, Spartanburg, York and Union. ? A case of mysterious disappearance and suspected foul play among white people, has just come to the notice of the authorities from the neighborhood of Huberts' mill in the Sand Hill section of Richland county, about thirteen miles from Columbia. Alice Brazil, wife of John Brazil, who still lives in the vicinity, has been missing since April last. She was overtaken by her husband, who took the children away and sent them back to the house and then, as stated by the little boy, commenced beating his wife with a stick.
