To the Voters of York Connty. My name having been placed before the people, at the approaching primary election, for nomination to the office of COUNTY COMMISSIONER, I take this method of expressing my gratitude for any support which may be given me at the said primary election. Very Respectfully, Ira Hardin. September 9 37 2t A Worthy Candidate. Mr. Editor: It is with pleasure that many of his fellow-citizens see the name of Mr. Hydkr A. D. NjjelT announced for nomination by the primary election for the office of County Treasurer of York county. Without detracting from the claims of any of the worthy aspirants for that office, we would impress the voters of the county with the peculiar claims which Mr. Neely undoubtedly possesses. First, and most importmt of all, he is competent, in point of business qualifications, to discharge the duties of the office. Secondly. He is a gentleman of recognized integrity. Thirdly. He has had the misfortune to be a cripple for life, from his infahcy, disabling and incapacitating him from manual labor for the support and care of bis family. Another important consideration is the fact, that if elected, he will make his residence in i Vnrkvillp and will make it a Doint to be in his | office at all times?a convenience which tax-pavers and others having business in his office will fully appreciate. Mr. Neely's political record is without blemish. He is fully deserving of the votes of bis party, and will receive the hearty support ot many dkmocrats. September 9 37 2t To the Pnbllc. Mr. W. B. McCaw, my competitor in the primary election for the office of Probate Judge, having, as I am informed, read in the Court House last Monday what purported to bean affidavit of Robert White, colored, the contents of the said affidavit charging that in the canvass of 1874 I was an avowed Republican, so regarded by the leaders of that party, and that the said Robert White attended Republican meetings and traversed the county of nights in my behalf, I paying him for such service, I deem it but just to .myself to publish the following sworn statement of the said Robert White, made on Monday evening after the public speaking in the Court House: south carolina.?york county. Personally appeared Robert White and makes oath that the paper exhibited by Wm. B. McCaw, and purporting to be an affidavit made by this affiant, is false in all matters of fact alleged in the said paper, except as to using my influence to secure the election of J. A. McLean to the office of Probate Judge of York county. I further hereby certify under oath that the said paper purporting to be an affidavit was not signed by me under oath, nor do I regard it as having been procured from me under correct pretences. Sworn to and subscribed before me this the ClAnfoin Knr llift uvii uay kji kjcpvtiijw/?j *wv. ?? Robert x White. P. B. Darwin, Trial Justice. mark. The above genuine affidavit, attested by a sworn official of York county, and neither dictated nor written by me, was read in the discus\ sion at Clover to-day, as a refutation of the socalled affidavit?acknowledged at Clover by Mr. McCaw to have been written by himself?and read by him on Monday in such manner as to convey the impression upon his hearers that it was a sworn statement made in duly prescribed legal form. With this simple statement, I am willing to rest my case with the public so far as relates to affidavits and the manner of procuring them. JOSEPH A. McLEAN. Yorkville, September 7, 1880.
