Kimbrell, of this county, who represents the wholesale clothing establishment of Thomas Chatterson & Co., of New York, and is visiting different portions of the State for the purpose of taking orders for goods. We wish him every success. SCHOOL APPORTIONMENT. J. K. Jillson, State Superintendent of Education, has addressed a circular to the school commissioner of this county, informing him that the amount apportioned to York county for the purpose of public schools for the school-year ending the 30th of last June, is $10,215.65. The attendance of pupils at those schools duri.ig the year was 4,530, on which the apportionment was based. ' HAIL STORM. k About p o'clock Sunday afternoon, a hail ? fkio OArtflAVt AAmintv o R70Q* U OiAJL LL1 VIOIV^U bUlO O^v/VlUU} vv/uiiug uviu m i*vw W terly direction and extending about ten miles east of town. We learn that about 16 miles west of here, the hail was accompanied with high wind, inflicting little damage, however. In this vicinity the hail fell in an unusually large quantity, though there was but little wind. Fortunately, the growing grain crops are not far enough advanced to have sustain,ed any damage. ROCK HILL ITEMS. The Orange mentions that the young men ' of Rock Hill are engaged in organizing a | brass band. At a recent meeting of the Rock Hill Democratic Club, Messrs. Peter Garrison, John R. London, A. E. Hutchinson, W. B. Wilson and Col. H. H. Drennan, were appointed delegates to the county convention. Mr. Mansel Hall, formerly of Fairfield oounty, died last week at Rock HilL He was highly respected. THE CROPS. Our information from the planting commnnitar ia tft eflfpot that larcp.r CfOr)9 of wheat and oats have been sown in York county since last fall, than in any year since the war, and at present the small-grain crops are in a promising condition. The fact that a larger area of laod has been sown in wheat and oats is a good indication. The people are beginning to learn that to make cotton culture profitable, it must only be the surplus of their products. Whenever all our people learn this fact, and adopt it in practice instead of theory, then they may hope to be prosperous, and banish the cry of hard times. Corn planting has also commenced, thus early, in some sections of the county. Farmers ceiving seed. The dry winter has had, to t some extent, the same effect on land as if it had been covered with snow. As to the use of fertilizers this season, our information tends to the belief that the farmers of this mill vtsvf intrnof in fliam ca 1 a rnol xt a a WUULJ "ill uub m ?v/ they did last year. THE TAXES. On last Tuesday afternoon, County Auditor Briggs received notice from the ComptrollerGeneral, that the time of collecting the taxes without the penalty attaching, has been extended until the 1st day of April next. This will give those in arrears about two weeks' more time in which to make their settlements. The treasurer's books show that up to the close of business on Monday night, he has received the sum of $80,095.20, besides the sum of $1,576.00 which has been tendered in the bills of the Bank of the State. In addition to the last-named sum, one tax-payer tendered $117.80 in the shinplasters of the Bank, issued under an act of the Legislature of 1863. These the treasurer was wont to utterly ignore and repudiate; but the gentleman offering them was persistent in making the tender, and A/^ f V\ n f fkmr oliAnl/I V\A kaaaitta/I nmir* luoiobcu iuat uiouuuiu icvuvcu iui iuuu* iy taxes as well as for State taxes. The treasurer claims that the shinplaster issues of the bank stand on the same footing as Confederate currency, and the present case, we presume, will give the Courts an opportunity to review his action in the premises. 1776 and 1876.?What changes have taken place in that period ? In none have they been more radical than in the treatment of diseases. In the olden time, nature, prostrate with pais and suffering, was attacked with the lancet, calomel, blisters, starvation and thirst. All this was done with honest intentions, but with terrible results. It is a pleasing fact that the enlightened public of the I present day have discarded such medication. The disorders that sap the powers of life are now expelled by remedial agents, that brace i*w . . viitol of ronrvfh yt? kiln vnnnmrt lfo ao ilao U|J 111'.' viva* ovicugiu, tw lx ii v luuuiwg im vuuou. The qualities are found in an eminent degree in Dr. Tutt's Vegetable Liver Pills. They have become celebrated over a wide extent of the globe as the safest and gentlest remedial agent ever offered to suffering humanity, and it is not the result of newspaper puffing, but by the great merit of the medicine itself. Although Many are Predisposed to Lung Troubles from Birth, yet even such may escape Consumption, or other Pulmonary or Bronchial diseases, if due care and I watchfulness be observed, and all exciting causes are promptly treated as they arise. It is in these cases Dr. Jayne's Expectorant exercises its most beneficial effects, and has produced the largest proportion of its cures. Besides promptly removing Coughs and Colds, which, when left to themselves, are the immediate causes of tuberculous development, this standard remedy allays any inflammation which may exist, and by promoting easy expectoration, cleanses the lungs of the substances which clog them up, and which rapidly destroy when suffered to remain. jfraancral aitb Commercial.
