kr, I may touch upon this subject again. No doubt, also, we would all willingly hear from X., if he has any thing of general interest to offer; but if he wishes to advertise his wares, let him pay for printer's ink, as he should. Still I hope that even this discussion may be of some benefit to your readers, by calliug attention to so important a subject. And I trust the day is not far distant when the customary weekly Bee Notes will be looked for in your columns with as much regularity and interest, as are now your agricultural and news items. Sigma. k. A VERY SAD OCCURRENCE. On Tuesday evening last, just after dark, our community was thrown into great excitement upon learning that a prominent colored man, named James Knuckles?formerly Coleman?had been shot, ou Main street, between the residences of Gen. Wallace and Mr. John Rodger, by Joseph McJunckin, an apprentice iu the Times office. The circumstances are briefly these: As McJunkin was going to supper, Knuckles, who was drunk, accosted him aDd asked if he heard a young man make use of insulting language to his niece, some days before. McJunkin said "No I did not," and passed on, when Knuckles in a very loud voice, used very insulting and ohscene language to him. This so exasperated McJunkin that he turned back and went up town to procure a weapon to resent it, as Coleman was too powerful a man for him to attack. In the mean time the town authorities had issued a warrant for Knuckles for using obscene language and other misconduct before ladies on the street, during the day. McJunkin went to his supper, still much excited and complaining that no one would lend him a pistol. As he left the supper table we supposed we had made him satisfied to let the town authorities take the matter in hand. This course he had been advised to ?pursue by others, but the boy did not seem to think it would be a sufficient satisfaction to himself. He, however, in company with a fellow apprentice, started to his sleeping room, which was in a house within fifty yards of the place where the shooting occurred. As he got to the entrance of the lot, he proposed to take a walk. It was quite dark, and soon after they started they met three men, and one of them said, "there is Joe McJunkin now." The young man recognizing Knuckles' voice, immediately drew a pistol and shot him in the head, and then leaped the fence. So sudden was it done that all present were for a minute or two paralyzed, which gave him time to get away. The two men with Knuckles were officers who had arrested him under the town council warrant. McJunkin is still at large. We cannot close this statement of facts without adding that young McJunkin has been in our employ since January last, aud duriDg that time his conduct has beeu of the most exemplary character, and he was the last young man in the town the people would have expected to commit a wrong act. He is a sober, industrious, moral and remarkably quiet boy. No young man in this State had a better character than he, until this rash act. Kuuckles is not dead, but lies in a very critical condition, and it is possible he may recover.? TJnionville Times, 21 st instant. Jinanrial aab Commercial. [Yorkville quotations reported by James H. JUDGING the future by the past, weenter with confidence upon this our new enterprise, of separating our Wholesale from our Retail Trade, by having a separate House for each; and in doing so we llatter ourselves that it will not only meet the approval of our numerous customers, but that an EXCLUSIVE WHOLESALE HOUSE, will bring us a large influx of new trade, and of a character not heretofore enjoyed. It must be obvious to every buyer that a strictly "Wholesale House," arranged and adapted for tliat trade only, with a corps of experienced Wholesale Salesman, with a Stock carefully selected FOR THAT TRADE ONLY, and moreover, the avoidance of coming in eontact with retail buyers, which we and you all have heretofore found to be so irksome, as it frequently happens that the retail buyer is your very neighbor, (perhaps your own customer). Such a house, we assert, must and WILL COMMEND ITSELF TO THE TRADE. Four years ago we advertised that we intended to make Charlotte a Wholesale Mart and ours "The Wholesale House." We now have the proud satisfaction of seeing it an accomplished fact. We now call your attention to the fact that we have eonverted'oursuperbstore into an exclusive Wholesale House, whero you can FIND ALL LINES OF GOODS necessary for a country store, to wit: Dry Goods, Clothine, Boots, Shoes, Hats, Notions, Groceries, Hardware, Millinery, <ke., all in complete lines, bought in large quantities and from the very first hands. Our stock is now arriving and will be complete ABOUT THE FIRST OF SEPTEMBER, and will be the largest of any here, the pretensions of others to the contrary notwithstanding. Wo respectfully invito your personal inspection, or write to us for circulars. Very truly vours. WITTKOWSKY & RINTELS. RETAIL. Now, a few words about that. We now occupy the superb house heretofore so favorably known its the Messrs. Brem, Brown A Go's DRY GOODS HOUSE, to carry on our Retail business, and as Krcclxior'' is, and has always been, our motto, we claim also in that line to excel in stock, to excel in lowncss of prices, and to excel generally. We will, in that house, have a corps of THIRTY SALESMEN AND SALES-LADIES, all experienced, allable, and obliging. /ZSfir We will make the Millinerv branch a specialty..^ WITTKOWSKY it RINTKLS, Charlotte, N.
