CHARLESTON, July 28.?the vhofv.?xuw information from most sections of the South speak satisfactorily of the progress of the crops, c Complaints, however, still occur, mostly from c the middle portion of this State, which represent the plant as backward and the stand unsatisfec- 1 tory. These reports are probably exceptional, the bulk of the Intelligence indicating the qpndition up to this time as good. In the low country the corn crop has been in most cases made, ana the ] late rains caused the plant to oome out well. Rioe J has also secured sufficient fresh water, and a fair c yield will perhaps be obtained. The report of the I Agricultural Bureau makes the increase of acre- 8 age in cotton this season at near 1,000,000 acres, and says the people are devoting all their energies to cotton. A good yield is promised in Georgia, " Alabama, Louisiana and Arkansas; slightly below an average in the Carol!nas, Florida, Mississippi, Texas and Tennessee. With an average j season the yield should be nearly 3,500,000, and if t . like last year, little short of 4,000,000 bales. . I The Receipts.?The arrivals at the ports for c the week up to Friday last were 7,477 bales against 9,474 bales the week before, and 2,813 bales for the same period last season. At New Orleans the re- ceipts wero 1,743 bales, in contrast with ? bales the year before. The total supplies at the cotton | ports from September 1st, 1869, up to the latest mail dates were 2,869,819 bales, against 2,037,855 ( bales last year, showing an increase of 831,964 i bales. The supplies at the principal Southern j ^ markets from September 1st, 1869, up to the latest telegraphic intelligence were as follows: 1870. 1869. The Cottow Market.?After the late panic at Liyerpool prices settled down for a time 'at 8?d. ] per pound for Middling Uplands, but have since ] become easier and receded to 8d. and 8}d., and i yesterday to 7|d.; at New York the rates opened ] at 20i cents, improved jto 201 cents, and declined to 20 oonts per pound; while at this point the enquiry has been mostly for the better qualities, which were in light stock, and were oonsequontly * held steady at 18 and 181 cents per pound, closing yesterday dull and -nominal. Corn.?The arrivals of this grain have been light. Transactions in a wholesale way took ] p&oe in Prime White, at $1.45 and $1.47 per bush- t el, weight, saoks included. The manufacturers of the North have asked for and obtained the assistance of the National Government until they have become a burden to the people at largo, and the tax paid by the Unitod States for the support of these manufacturers is equal to all the other taxes put together. Let our manufacturers make goods of a better quality, and atlowQf prices,-than other manufacturers, and they can defy competition without Government help. This, atleast, is the plan of Mr. P. P. Toale, of Charleston, S. C., the largest and most successful manufacturer of doors, sashes, blinds ' and mouldings in the Southern States. July 28 30 1m * " _t'K. Sinking Slowly. Diseases that progress rapidly to a crisis arc not the only ones to be dreaded. Canker or dry rot, does l.pt blast a tree as suddenly as a stroke of j lightning, but unless arrested, it destroys it as ; certainly; and in like manner chronic debility, ' although it does not kill with the awjfi yellow fever, Is as sure to sap the spria^of ltf||vliitaallyas any acute disease, if not cbeckiMpfr invigorating medication. ThereiB something inexpressibly touching in the spectacle of premature decay. Languor, pallor, emaciation, depression of spirits, and a distaste for exertion, are its ordinary symptoms, and they should be promptly met by tonic treatment. The best invigorant and exhilarant that can be administered in a case of this kind is Hostetter's Stomach Bitters. The stimulating principle of the.preparation rouses the dormant energies of the system, and the strengthening and regulating properties give a permanent and healthful impulse to the vital forces thus brought into play. The foiling appetite is reawakened, the process of digestion and assimilation are quickened, the quality of the blood is improved, the secretions become more natural, and every organ that contributes to the nourishment of the body undergoes salutary change. By these means the repair of the physical structure is effected and its health ana vigor restored. In no class of diseases has the beneficent operation of the Bitters been more marked aud striking than in those characterized by general debility and nervous prostration. Ladies affected with these ailments find in this most wholesome of all tonics and correctives the safest and surest means of relief. It is strong to restore and powerless to injure. Such is the uniform testimony of "clouds of witnesses." HOW TO CURE IT. At tho commencement of the Diarrhoea, which always precedes an attack of the Cholera, take a teaspotmtal of the Pain Killer in sugafsnd water, [hot, if convenient) and then bathe freely the atomachand bowels with the Pain Killer clear, ilbould the diarrhoea or cramps continue, repeat the dose every ten or fifteen minutes until the patient is relieved. In extreme cases, two or more teaspoonfuls may be given at a dose. The Pain Killer, as an internal remedy, has no jqual. In cases of Cholera, 8ummer Complaints, Dyspepsia, Dysentery, Asthma, it cures in one eight, Dy taking it internally and bathing with it Treely. Its action is like magic, when externally applied to old Sores, Burns, Scalds, and Sprains. For Sick Headache and Toothache, don't fail to try it. In short, it is a Pain Killer. Directions accompany each bottle. The Pain Killer is sola by all dealers in Medicine. Prices, 25 cents, 50 cents and f 1 per bottle. August 4 31 lm HYMENEAL. Married? On the 28th ultimo, by Rev. ?. L.
