Fayssoux, repaired to tie place where the murder had been coramited, and after summoning a jury, proceeded t? hold an inquest. The witnesses examined, fom their own knowledge, threw but little lqht on the J affair, and the matter is involved in some mystery. The statements made by the murderer to Mr. S. G. Herhphill, are tothe effect (that Archer came to the house when he (Geo. G Hemphill) was, when the two commeiced quarreling in regard to a woman whom the latter ft claimed as his wife, when Archc seized a chair and struck the latter with it George Hemphill, as soon as struck, retreatril t. where J an axe was leaning against the wall seiaed the axe, and struck Archer several bhws with it ^ about the head and face. * George, supposing that he had killed Archer, conveyet the body about one-third of a mile from the s:ene of the murder and concealed in the wooch On the body being examined, tie fact be came evident that when it was deposited in the woods, life was not entirely extnct, as one one of the hands had clutched sane of the leaves strewn on the ground, and a billet of wood, lying near, was stained with blood. ^ i : The following is the verdict of:he jury of ] inquest: ?
