WORKING CHRISTIAN, A WEEKLY BELI8I0DE IEWBTAPEE, to be edited by REV. TIL3VIAN B. GAINES, And published by Capt. L. M. Gkist, at the Office of the Yorkville Enquirer, Yorkville, S. C. HAYING secured a working capital of . NO THOUSAND DOLLARS, and arranged with Capt L. M. Grist, the successful proprietor of the Yorkville Enquirer, to publish for me, I expect to issue on the FIRST DAY OF JULY next, the first number of The Working Christian, a weekly Religious Newspaper, to be elegantly printed with new type, on good paper, and to contain twenty-four wide columns. This enterprise has originated in the conviction that such a paper is, at this time, specially needed among our churches, to stir up the "pure minds of Christians" and "provoke them to love and good works." It will contain valuable reading on matters of practical importance, and will be specially devoted to the interests of the Christian Religion. Its title-WORKING CHRISTIAN-partially defines the character of our paper, and suggests the department in whioh we hope it will principally labor. The epithet WORKING, is not to be understood as opposing or excluding the gospel faith which we are ever to hold and contend for; but as it was necessary for Paul to attend chiefly to tli6 mysteries offaith, and James to the depart merit of work*, so we propose, for tne most pert, to leave the oontending for the fhith to others, and content ourselves by saying to all, "faith without worka is dead." We desire to send out our herald weekly, to sound the alarm in the ears of the churches: "Awake! Awake! put on thy strength, O Zionand to earnestly beseech every Christian in the land to "work while it is day." The term CHRISTIAN is intended to embrace nothing more nor less than the word strictly Imports, viz: a follower of Christ, such as were they, who were "first called Christians at Anliochf' It will contain the leading intelligence of the religious world as to Missions, and sympathize with every enterprise which has for its aim the progress of the Saviour's kingdom. It will watch the movements of the churches?seek out working churches and working men, and report their operations and successes. Its oolomne will contain, also, items of general intelligence. It will take no part in politics, further than to give the latest political news. Information on arming and gardening. on education and ail the departments of usefufindustry, will be found in our paper. Special attention will be paid to the cause of Sabbath Schools. Indeed, we hope to make our paper very interesting to the young. TERMS?INVARIABLY IN ADVANCE. Single copy, one year, 2 Five copies, " .11 Ten ?? i An extra copy will'be given to the person sending a club of ten names accompanied with the money. Remittances in Registered letters may be made at the risk of the undersigned. None need entertain a single doubt as to the issuing of this paper for one year. All necessary arrangements have been made to conduct it that long. Shonld anything, however, prevent us from doing so, every oent for unexpired time will be promptly returned to the subscribers. Then please forward us your name at cmoe, or a list of live or ten* with the money, and let us send you the first number. ffM* Specimen copies will be sent gratis, as soon as Issued, to all who will apply before tbe 1st of July. ,?3ir Address "The Working Christian," Yorkvflle, S.
