and orphans sbed their tears; it spreads over a large circle of relatives, friends and acquaint ances, to whom she was endeared by those ties which virtuous worth alone can form and ma ture. With a mind trained and invigorated by the hand of education, she was endowed with those amiable qualities which impart to the female character its greatest excellence and beauty. Divine grace, however, would fill up the outlines which nature had drawn, and education improved, that she might be lacking in nothing. Taught by inspiration the utter inadequacy of natural gifts and endowments to secure the favor of God, and an assurance of future happiness, the deceased had been led to sit down a? a peoitent at the feet of the Savior, and in total abandonment of all that self had done or claimed as a ground of hope, cast herself on the merits of a crucified Redeemer. Together with her husband, she had been for several years a consistent mem > < .L - r> k...??k.,..?k R?nonlr'^ oer 01 ine rmujicimu vtiuivu, VI uunvvn CCrtek, in the bosom of which she closed her short and exemplary life. The sufferings she endured on her death-bed. were severe indeed; but the Hand from which they came, fully sustained her under them, and caused them to be instrumental in quickening her faith into the most vigorous exercise. Christ was all in all to her in this day of her trial?the fountain of her soul's peace?the theme of her conversation?the sun that shone in brightness upon the prospect now opening before her, and awakened in her bosom the incipient joys of heaven. To a friend conversing with her, she said, "I am a poor sinner ; I hnve broken the commandments of God, but I depend upon Christ Jesus alone, for my salvation." "Christ is prec ious to them that believe," answered the friend. "0 yes," said she, "He is precious to me, I love him ; He is every thing to me." At another time, when apparently near her departure, she was asked if she was afraid to die. "No ! no !" said she, "I long to go and to be with my Savior; death has no terror for me." Having taken a sup of water from a friend who waited upon her, she said, "I shall soon drink of that cool water t which is in the kingdom of heaven." The company in the room were, at her request, about to engage in worship, when she said, "Sing the hymn, '0 Lamb of God 1 come " that hymn not being found, she said, "Then sing the hymn. 'Rock of ages cleft for me.' " She united in singing with a voice and energy that quite surprised us, and with the palms of her hands placed together and resting on her breast, and her eyes raised towards heaven, she saDg with us to the close of the hymn. After worship, her remarks, as she was able to make them, were expressive of an abiding faith, with a greater increase of heavenly peace and joy. Having sum moned to the task the remainder of her rapidly wasting strength, she took ber leave of her beloved husband and children, commending them to the protection and grace of a covenant keeping God, and this duty performed, waited in holy resignation until her happy spirit was released from its suffering tenement, and ushered into its everlasting rest in the kingdom of God.
