DAG N ALL, No. 59 Fulton-street, Brooklyn, X. V. Commercial JUpatfinnit. Yorkville Cotton Market.^ reported ry robert c. m. alexander. ArRIL 29. There has been bnta small supply of Cotton on sale since the last report; aud at easier prices, owing to the depressed state of the Charleston Market. We, however, still quote extremes at 11 to 13$. Columbia Market. April 27. Cotton.?In reviewing the week just brought to a close we have but few remarks to mnke on the cotton market. During the whole of tho week the j supply of the article on sale has been unusually light, with a good and active demand, and if there has been any change in the general ruling rates it has been in favor of sellers. On Friday the adrices from Liverpool by the City of Washington to the 8th instant came to hand, reporting the cotton maiket quiet but firm, and also stating that the Bank of England had advanced its rate of interest to 7 percent. These accounts bad no material effect on our market, for the fact is, the quantity offering was so small that it was scarcely worth the attention of buyers. The sales of the week foot np 500 bales, and we now quote : Inferior 11} @ 12; ordinary 12} @12}; middling 12}@12}; good middling 12} @ 18}; fair 13} @ 13}; and choice 13f @ 13} cents. Bacon.?We have no material change to notice in this market during the past week, and we are thereforo compelled to continue our former quotations of 12} @ 18 cents per lb., according to quality. Corn.?There is a fair stock of the article on hand, and the market is quiet but steady at former prices, viz: 95c. @ $1 per bushel. Peat.?The stock of peas on sale is light, and as the demand is good prices are looking up? We now quote $1 @ 105 per bushel. Hour.?There is * good supply of this article on sale, and the market is quiet but steady. We therefore continue to quote $7 @ $7} for common to good brands; superfine $71; and extra family flour $8 @ 8} per bbl. Fodder.?There has been no material change in the fodder market, and consequently we cannot altor our quotations of $1.50 @$1.62} per 100 lbs. rvrr r Jfgnuittai. |? Married? On the 22d April, by Rev. As regards "Liver Disease" being kept up by inflammation of the storaaoh there need not be the slightest shadow of a doubt, for there is not now, never has been, nor ever will be, a case of "Liver Disease," bnt-that in connection with it are most prominent symptoms of inflammation of the stom- j ach, and npon innniry .it will nlso be ascertained that the ston^HR^mptoms existed long before j any disenm^HHHscovercd in the Liver. Question ; " any invalid suffering from "Liver Disease," as re- | girds the early history of his complaint, and he j 1 ?;il nln./..! 11.. ... ...... 4. 4..,.. I I in rui tuui j i ci cr juu j vu iu ouuiv uwu- j ble in the digestive orpaus, and proceed to nar- j rate symptoms that give unmistakable evidence ; that previous to the "Liver Disease," there was a positive derangement of the stomach. Question tfic invalid suffering from "Liver Disease," and fire out of every ten symptom^ he will describe as i suffering from, will give the most positive assur- j ancc that disease of the stomach is also existing ; in connection with the disease of the liver. Again, in any cnrnble case of "Liver Disease," no matter how stubborn may be its character, ov hoW long it has resisted medical treatment, let a well-directed treatment be instituted for the disease of thestom- ' acli, and the "Liver Disease," will vanish like dew before the rising sun. Why? Because that which caused the "Liver Disease," and that which has been the cause of its continuance, has been removed?cured. The caute (the stomach disease) heing removed, the rfffct (the Liver Disease; will soon vanish. Proofs in abundance, of the most positive char- i acter, could be addnced in support of the fnct that disease of the Liver is but a secondary disease? produced by disease of the stomach. If, then, all this trouble has its rise and origin in inflammation of the mucus membrane of the stomach, what will " be thougbt of a trcamcnt that still further stimulates a membrane already over-stimulated and inflamed ? How are the secretions of the Liverstimulatcd ? By first exciting or irritating the mucus membrane of the stomach. The remedies taken for c the purpose of stimulating the Liver, do not and cannot touch the Liver at all; it is physically impossible for them to do so; and can only stimnlate tL a T Svaw knt kv? tifimnlnflri/* aw ii-Htotlnn tka mucus membrane of the stomach. And is not that same mucus membrane in an nlready over- excited and over stimulated condition, and from \ which over stimulated and inflamed condition, the disease of the Liver was produced in the first place? It strikes me that those who have hereto- j fore depended on the "pill" and "bitters'* treatment to cure them of their "Liver Disease," can now see why it is that they have not only received no benefit from such a treatment, but arc, in fact, worse off than when they adopted it. And it also C strikes me, that those who have, as they so very innocently say, placed their Liver medicines in the shnpe of a "patent" before the people only at fl the very earnest sol'ci'ation of their lrienls, fear- ' ing that by doing so they may be ranked among the innumerable class of einpyrics, had better look well to the theory they advocate, or "the people" will very readily discover the "lion's skin" and affix the title of empyric, where it, in so much ? good faith, belongs. e What are the true indications of treatment ?? Those which will remove the cause of the disease, , viz.?the inflammatory action of the mucus membrane of the stomach. Any other treatment than this, will ever prove of not the least particle of benefit. The idea of prescribing for the Liver f] alone, and taking no thought of the condition of I the stomach, is a perfectly ridiculous one, and the idea of effecting a cure throngh the use of those remedies that "stimulate the secretions," is the height of cmpyricism. for every dose taken J will just so much the more exasperate the disease, by still farther irritating and inflaming an already over-excited and inflamed mucus membrane of the stomach. It is a fact beyond any cavil, that any and all remedies taken into the stomach for the purpose of "stimulating the secretions of the ' Liver," will not and cannot fail to irritate the mu- ! cus membrane of the stomach: for it is by this irritation that the Liver is exci.ed or stimulated; and unless they did produqc this irritation of the stomach, it would be an impossibility for them to efl'ect any change in the secretions of the Liver.? This is a fact from which there is no getting away, and the pill venders know it very well; they know [ that they can strike at the Liver only through the j stomach, and the blow aimed at the Liver, falling i as it does upon a worn-out, ex-hausted and infla- 1 mcd mucus mcmbraue of the stomach, cannot fail to exasperate the disease of the Liver, because it 1 exasperates the disease which was the first great cause of the ''Liver Disease." This doctrine, is I am well aware, at total variance with that advocated by many "big guns" in the "patent" line, and the attempt to controvert a doctriue put forth with so much vehemence by them, may, by some, be rognrded as an act of not only no little daring, but bare-laced assumption, j If so, I would refer to the fact that "Young America" is a great "institution," and as "every tub I must stund on its own bottom," every person has ! free and full privilege to exercise the high prerog- i ative of "lying arouud loose," or "taking a little wake gin, to take the wind from his heart," and j even to talk about "putty" as if he absolutely j j "knew the price of it;" and I have taken the lib- j j, erty of giving my notions as regards "Liver Disease," and the true indications of treatment,, be- I _ cnuse, 1st, I wns called upon to do so by my pat- j rons; 2J, because 1 conceived it a duty towards j suffering humanity, in view pf their disappoint- 1 ment of benefits promised in their selection of I those remedies which have for their object the j 1 "stimulating of the I.iver;" 3d, because in contro- i J verting those false theories, I could show good j A and substantial reasons why they were false; 4th, j ? because, in the theory I advance, I could offer I reasons for the betypf that is in me; 5th, and last- n ly, because, if I succeed in convincing invalids of the truth of my position, they will seek relief in that preparation, which if taken according to di- ^ rcctions it will not fail to relieve and cure perma- j ^ neatly. 1 allude to BLISS' DYSPEPTIC REMEDY, j which is for sale by druggists and merchants j throughout the country.
