Columbia Market. December 15. ~ Cotton?At the date of our previous weekly report it will no doubt be recollected that we left the market active and buoyant, at prices varying from 10J@11 ]c. During the whole of the week just terminated the same good feeling has prevailed, and under the, iufluence ot' an active demand prices have been pressed up $@]c. on our Inst quotations, bringing fair cotton up to 11$, and cboico life. On Friday morning the news frotn Liverpool to the 29th ult. by the Africa came to hand, reporting the cotton market quiet, and a decline of $d. on the low and middling qualities. Sales for the week only 40,000 bales, of which speculators took 2,200, and exporters 1,100 bales. These accounts had no material effect on our market, and up to the close of business on Saturday evening the demand was good at the following quotations, viz: Inferior 1<U@10$; ordinary 10.^ @10$; Middling 11@11 J; good middling 11$@ 11$; fair 11 $?11 ?; and choice 11 Jc. The sales of the week comprise 1,550 bales. Bacon?The demand for this article is rather dull, and consequently prices are a shade lower. We now quote 8$@9* for shouWers; sides with ribs 10; clear 10,J(a>10A; hams lll(S;121c. "" ??? vi/ot lm? hum nuiet but I,orn?jl ue curu uuu.v. ? steady during the whole of the past week at our former quotations of 80@8oc. per bushel. Peat?There is a fair stock of peas on the market, and the demand is quiet but steady at 65@ 60c. per bushel. 3 Oatt.?We have no change to notice in the price of oats, and we therefore continue to quote 55@ 60o. per bushel. Flour.?We have no material or quotable change to notice in the flour market, and we therefore continue to quote $G4@$6| for common to good brands ; superfine $7 ; and extra family flour $7] (2^$7f per barrel. Fodder.?The fodder market has been quiet but steady during the whole of the past week, and consequently we continue to quote $U?$1 jc.per 100 lbs. Jjpuiual. ... This Press will throw off from 600 to 800 sheets per hour, doing the work equal to any Cylinder Press. The bed stands abont 80 inches from the floor, and is the most conrenient of all Presses to / make ready the form on. It is adapted to jobbing, or book work, as well as newspaper, and will register as well as any other Cylinder Press. It requires, to work it, a man to turn the fly /wheel and a boy to feed the sheetB. The Inking Apparatus is very complete, and differs from the apparatus used in Cylinder Presses generally, being more like that nsed in the Power Platen Presses. Two rollers pass over the form twice to each impression, taking ink for each sheet. A Press of this description for newspaper and jobbing, bed 44 by 28$ inches, with roller mould, roller stocks, blanket, flying and registering apparatus, &o., complete, will be furnished for $600.
