South Carolina News. Two colnpanies qi United States infantry have been sent to Aiken. They will encamp near that place. Dr. y. A. Stewart of Ninety-Six, in'Abboville county, has made this year twenty-two hundred and fifty bushels of small grain. McDevitt, the runaway treasurer 4 of Edgefield, was recently captured in Alabama, and is now in jail in Columbia. Efforts are making to have him released on bail. The Democratic county conven. ion of Edgefield has nominated a full county ticket, with Gun. M. W. 4 Gary for State senator. The Demo- ! crate are confident of a victory in November. Generals Hampton, Kershaw, Me! Gowan and Harllee, and Mr. Geo. W. Williams have been mentionedI in connection with the Democratic nomination for Governor. Kershaw ja and McGowan have both declined to run. It is stated that the sheriff of -Aiken county has been notified that any parties for whom he has wvar-- - rants of arrest, in connection with the liamburg affair, are ready to i surrender themselves into his custo dy at any time. The conavention of colored men called by Elliott held secret meet ings, and no white man was admit ted. Politics is said to have been entirely exchided from the discus sion. An address will be published 1 in. a few days. It is said to be very moderate and pacific in its tone. Governor Chamberlain has been stttmping several counties, and has publicly antilnced himself a candi. dte for re-election. The opposition to him in his party seenas rapidly melting away, and if -nominated, it seems likely that he will have about him the worst and most dangerous elements in the Republican party. At Lewieville, in Orangeburg county, on the 21st inst., a col ored man named Curry was shot and killed by Mr. T. Woodward, as an act of self defence. The diflicul.' ty grew out of a horse trade, and Curry, becoming dissatisfied, assail ed Mr. Woodward. The latter has surrendered himself to the sheriff. Thie Columbia correspondent of the Newa and Coturier is informed 'that- the real -murdeirer of Joe Crews is known to the Crows fami ly, but is not prosecuted for certain private reasons known only to them selves. The mysterious person is ely described as "a county ofi.
