Gardner's Fire Extinguisher We were present at tho trial of the Gardner Fire extinguisher made on the College Green on Saturday after. noon by Messrs. Bacot '& Co., the agents for tbis County. Empty bar rels filled with straw and saturated with petroleum were placed one on top of the other to the number of ten and when the flames haid complete ly enveloped the mass-then the stream was turned on the fire and iii a very short space of titne the fire was entirely subdued, without exhausting the contents of the apparitus. At night the young men of the town built another fire, even moro formida. ble than that of the afternoon and when the flames were fully ten feet high, the stream was directed on the pilo and in less than one minute by the watch it was subdued, it was again allowed to burn and with the same charge again put I out whmen so hot. that Capt.
