Af t4g retiring a short time, the committee re *irned and presented the following resolu tions : Whereas, the people tf Varfield District, Solemnly inpressive by the complete deso lation that surrounds them, and not know ing how they can be relieved from their present sad conditions, do most respectfully solicit the aid of.e law making power, in their behal WHow that pow6r can come to their assistance, is for the Legislature in their wisdom to decidL. We, the people of Fairfield District, can only recommend to that honorable body, what we conceive to be just, honorable and etuitable. There fore ]at. Resolved, That in the opinion of this meeting. the people of this District., regard the decision of the J udicia.r relative to the constitotionality of the Sta Law as prema ture, and 'that no action thould have been taken until the State of 1outh Carolina had been admitted into the Union with all the privileges, guaranteed to Jier -by the Con stitution, - 2nd. Resolved, Wherese, the judiciary of South Carolina. not contemplating the wide spread ruin that will result from their do cision, relative to the constitutionality of the stay law. And rhereas, the judiciary of ether States have deolded that the &my Laio is constitutional, we, the people of this Districtdo obt earnestly desire, that. - they wil4reconsider their former decisions. 3rd. Resofved, W.hereas, the Constitution of the Stat: of Romuh Carolina, distinctly. affirms, that the Legislature shall not pass qe law impairiag the obligation of contracts; that we earnestly solioit the law -making power, (the Legislature) to call a Conven tion, to take into coWderation the anoma lous condition efaffairs not contemplated by the framers of the Constitution. * * * 41s . * . 6th. Therefore. Resolved, That -the people of South Carolina, In convention assi mnbled, did, with extraordinary unanimity secede from the Union We, therefore, the people of this District, belleve that equity, justice andcharacter demand, that we should be come eqeal,parlicipants in all the disastrous consequences resulting therefrom. 6th, Resolved, That while we ask the Leg islature to proteet the debtor from an im pAper sacrifice of his property, at the same time it is our opinion that the rights of the creditor. ought to be protected by preventing debtors from making fraudulent disposItion of their property.
