There will be plenty i>f % flour for food, but none to waste. Australia has raised a good wheat crop, but there is a lack of ships to transport' it to Europe., Consequently we must help feed our Allies or lose the war. Last year was a banner 3Com Crop, but reports from cer tain sections of the West indi cate that owing to shortage of labor to harvest if* and conges tion on railroads to carry it to markets, much corn is still ly ing in the fields. Practically all flour used in this Country is raised And ground in the West. Formerly it was the custom for merchants to sell all the flour a customer could be induced to buy. Some merchants _who scented a stringent flour market took time by the forelock and laid in a big stock. But the Federal authorities saw no wis dom in allowing either mer chants or individuals to hoard flour while others were doing without. So they have provided a penalty of four years imprison ment or a fine of $10,000, or both, for violators of the law against the hoarding of flour. Inasmuch as advertising tends towards buying larger amounts than aro absolutely needed, the United States food administra tion objects to advertising either sugar or flour on the part of mer- -A Calain'hu.
