Ynn Tassel's recommendation to the Hoard
of Equalization of the appointment of three
tax-payers in each Township, to sit with
said Hoard, has boon copied by nearly all
the papers of tho St.ite. Mr. Van Tassel's
desire seems to bo to give satisfaction to tho
people, and to put property at its value and
no more. This is praiseworthy in him. and
will meet with the approbation of all honest
men.

this place on Monday last, and commenced
their investigation. In consequence of the |
unavoidable absence of one or two officers,
the committee adjourned on Thursday to
meet again on the 0th inst. We understand
tlicy will compliment Mr. Holiver for his
careful management of the affairs of the
County Commissioners' office, for the last
two years. He is a faithful officer, a ad de
serves such commendation.
Inquiries come tons from all quarters,
seeking information in regard to Solicitor
Ruttz's attitude towards Moses, ami wheth
er a new bill will he given out against him
at tin January term of the Sessions Court.
We answer, that Solicitor Buttz knows that
Moses lias violated the law?by which the
people of this County lost $0,000, and
which they will have to make good?and he
will porsuo him as far as hu can. The
Solicitor has all the proofs in his possession,
and will use (hem in January next. We
know enough of Bultz to say that ho will do
his duly as a ]>u!>!ic officer, without foar or
favor.

A lively game of Base Bn'l was played on
Tuesday afternoon between two ple'cod
nines of the Orange Club, resulting in favor
of John IIolmau'8 nine, the score standing HI
to 17. At the close of the game, the Presi
dent, J. S. A'.borgotti, presented the Cham
pion Badge and Belt to M. 0. SnJloy, bo
having made a clean score, namely, three
runs, being the best scoro.
The Swamp Angles failing to como to time
on Monday afternoon, the time appointed
for tl.o second game the Orange claimed the
game by a score of '.I to 0. This
leaves the Orange again Champion of the
Coup, y for this season.

The State Convention drew a great many
men, women and children to Columbia
During tho first day of the proceedings of
that body, a ponpous end officious young
mini, from n strong Republican Count j of
the up country, assumed a great many airs
which were not natural to him* In the Con
vention he shook familiarly tho hands of
such notables ao Judge Maokey, Senator
Patterson and Chambcrlnin, and with a
pea-cock strut promenaded tho isles of the
House of Representatives. Said young man
attracted u great deal of notice; but unfor
tunately for htm, an old acquaintance of

ing face, and while ho was talking to a host
of big men, approached him with n broad
