the committee on ways and moans, when
a sub committee was appointed to iuves

telegram last week : "The newly-elect
cd Governor, Cohie, was inaugurated
last night. Armed men are guarding
the approaches to tho offices of the
cnpitdl. Other armed men have possess
ion of the legislative halls. A conflict
seems inevitable. A message from you
may save us from this disaster."
Tho attorney-general telegraphed in
reply : "I enn only appeal to the parties
to peacefully adjust their difficulties if
possible. Can nob some one negotiate a
settlement? I' have no power to inter
'f'ero with force, nor have you nny duty
to perform in respect to tho matter

peace."
