Decision About Dehts.?The Su
preme Court of Tennessee has rendered
a deoision which announces a new rule
in regard to acknowledgments of debt.
Heretofore it hus been accepted as law
that, where a payment bad been male
upon a note, such payment took the in
strument out of the statute of limitations.
According to the late decision, no note
can now be collected after six years, on
tho ground that partial payment hus been
made. Tho payment is to be considered
as an ncknowlcdgmen pro tantot and
uot for the entire debt.
Sam Edwards met with a serious loss
in a novel and astonishing way last Week.
While plowing in the Lebanon soction
the ground suddeuly gave way and tho
horse aud p'ow disappeared from view.
Mr. Edwards being a roan of nerve, took
a sensible view oi the case, came to
Abbeville and sent a dispateh to the
Emperor of Uhiraa to offer a reward and
have the teiim taken care of until he
calls Jl>r it. He will start for China
when he hears from the Emperor.?

A. F. M., of New York, held Wedues>
dny, Grand Master Fox stated that non
intercourse with the Grand Orient of
Franca and the Grand Lodge of Ham
burg still continued, but amicable rela
tion cxivt with all other grand lodges in
the world. An edict of the Grand Lodge
of Canada, cutting communication with
the Grand Lodge of Vermont, and an
edict of the Grand LocVjre of Vermont,
cutting from communication the Grand
Lodge ul Canada, were received.
